The UNEP estimates that the current funding gap for nature-based solutions sits at $200 billion. That is only one third of what is needed to meet 2023 climate and nature goals. 🎯 We believe that Indigenous people are some of the most effective stewards of nature, but often lack the financial resources to support their protection efforts. 🌳 Our approach to financing forest conservation through the voluntary carbon market is one effective mechanism for channelling much needed finance to IP and LCs on the frontline of protecting nature. 💵 Watch this short video to find out how we link IP and LC efforts to protect nature with the global economic system. 👇 https://lnkd.in/eThHS75B #indigenouspeople #nature #finance #carboncredits

THE UN’S GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION The United Nations drives global efforts in environmental protection by fostering partnerships that support sustainable development, climate resilience, and biodiversity conservation. These collaborations unite governments, private sectors, and environmental organizations to address critical issues like climate change and habitat degradation. By pooling resources and expertise, the UN promotes effective, nature-based solutions that have a lasting global impact. In line with these goals, Sepik Wetlands & Peatlands Limited focused on carbon projects that contribute to both environmental preservation and local community growth. We continuously seeking potential investors to help develop up to 2.5 million hectares of project areas, designed to capture significant carbon while promoting sustainable development. We aim to bridge the gap between conservation efforts and economic progress. Telehealth has such a powerful role in sustainability because it reduces the need for travel, which helps cut down on carbon emissions. When we think about initiatives like the Sepik Wetlands & Peatlands project, integrating telehealth could mean even more—ensuring that people in remote areas get the healthcare they need without compromising the environment. It’s about creating a future where both our planet and our communities can thrive together.

An op-ed in Carbon Pulse, co-authored by several authors, including members of US Nature4Climate such as the Wildlife Conservation Society, The Nature Conservancy, American Forest Foundation, and Conservation International, underscores the pivotal role of nature-based solutions in addressing climate change and biodiversity loss through the voluntary carbon market (VCM). The authors argue that despite criticisms, the VCM is essential for mobilizing private finance for conservation and restoration. They contend that abandoning the VCM would hinder progress, as it remains one of the most mature mechanisms for injecting private finance into conservation projects. The piece calls for a strong scientific community to enhance trust in nature-based carbon projects, advocating for interdisciplinary research and ethical practices. Continuous improvement and collaboration are key to scaling impactful climate action. How do you design a restoration program that maximises biodiversity outcomes? 🌱🌳 Restoring the health of our environments is going to require an increased investment in conservation and land management, and a more effective return on these investments. 📈 A new hub project is working with stakeholders to determine what social and ecological factors lead to the best outcomes for restoration programs. The project is led by Associate Professor Martin Breed and Dr Jake M. Robinson (Flinders University), Associate Professor Rachael Gallagher (Western Sydney University), Associate Professor Vanessa Adams (University of Tasmania), Professor Susan Laurance (James Cook University) and Dr Angela Dean (The University of Queensland). https://lnkd.in/gnzPMMEp #NESP #research #RestorationByDesign #restoration #biodiversity #conservation Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, Greening Australia, Bush Heritage Australia, Department for Environment and Water, SA Water, Tasmanian Land Conservancy, NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, Wet Tropics Management Authority, Terrain NRM, Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action

This article on benefiting nature and humans, by John Poulson and appearing in The Guardian, points toward a crucial direction for the immediate future. Planning and designing with nature in mind - especially to restore biodiversity and natural functions - is a necessity if we humans want to survive the present and future. Thanks to climate writer Katherine Hayhoe for reposting.

#ClimateChange isn't just an environmental issue, it's a displacement crisis! According to a recent #IUCN report, by 2050, up to 700 million people and countless species could be forced from their homes. We must prioritize collaborative solutions that integrate #Environmental #Conservation, peacebuilding, and #Humanitarian efforts. MoEF&CC Read more: https://lnkd.in/gRWgm_gv

I think we could add food security and socio-economic development to the mix.
Last week, New York Climate Week. This week, #environmentalpolicy and #ecosystem management with the KatoombaGroup.org, hosted by Forest Trends Association. Major issues at stake: - Regional security issues and new policy agendas like #climatechange are shifting public and private investments. Do we need to also change how we talk about and manage ecosystems in order to keep them relevant? - The three “Rio Conventions” of climate (UNFCCC), drought (UNCCD), and biodiversity (UNCBD) have grown like weeds rather than as a coordinated, convergent set of policies. Can we braid the strands into a single, strong cable? As you might have guessed, I think the common thread is #water, and the narrative of #resilience is missing from both CCD and CBD. We’re hoping to span COPs as well as conventions — all three conventions are meeting over the next three months. And we should be looking forward to the next few years too. So glad to be here! The EU's Nature Restoration Law (#NRL) aims to reverse this trend with binding restoration targets, focusing on peatlands for carbon storage, disaster mitigation, and biodiversity recovery. ➡️ Read our full analysis here to learn more about the role of the Nature Restoration Law in restoring Europe’s peatlands 🙌 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e4bFc5zR

Start your week with positive news! 🌱 The EU Nature Restoration Law has officially entered into force on Sunday, 18 August. 👏 ✅ What are the key provisions? By 2030, EU Member States will be required to implement restoration measures in at least 20% of the EU's land and sea areas. By 2050, these measures should be in place for all ecosystems needing restoration. The law’s key objective is to restore key habitats, halt biodiversity loss and contribute to Europe’s climate neutrality. It also requires maintaining urban green space and expanding it after 2030. ⏩️What’s next? Each Member State will develop a national restoration plan and submit it to the European Commission within two years. 🤝How can you contribute?
