The official ground-breaking ceremony for Dream's new residential development, #Odenak, took place on November 15 in LeBreton Flats, Ottawa. According to the partners involved, it will be "much more than a residential development" featuring integrated affordable housing, green building practices, and comprehensive social programming. In addition to achieving LEED Gold standards, Odenak will implement the #OnePlanetLiving framework and is targeting an energy reduction of 45 per cent compared to typical buildings that meet the national building code: https://lnkd.in/giDXNdBd

We’re continuing to build new homes in Toronto’s core. Today we announced the beginning of construction at 35 Bellevue Ave. This property, previously a City-owned parking lot, will include approximately 78 rent-geared-to-income homes. The City has selected Kensington Market Community Land Trust in partnership with St Clare’s Multifaith Housing Society as 35 Bellevue Ave.’s operators. These future homes will contribute to the creation of non-market homes, increasing affordable rental housing stock in Toronto. While providing safe, affordable, and independent living spaces, these projects also offer people homes with supports to maintain their health, wellbeing, and housing stability. Co-living developments are transforming London’s housing landscape, providing innovative and community-focused solutions to address the ongoing housing crisis. New research by Lichfields UK, featured in A New Way to Live: Co-living in London, reveals the rapid growth of the co-living sector and its potential to reshape urban living. Despite being in its early stages, the sector is already thriving, with nearly 70% of large-scale co-living planning applications in London gaining approval. These thoughtfully designed spaces prioritize affordability, flexibility, and a sense of community, catering to young professionals and others seeking modern, high-quality living environments. However, misconceptions persist, and collaborative efforts between developers, policymakers, and communities are essential to ensure co-living is fully integrated into housing strategies. Adam Donovan, Planning Director at Lichfields, emphasizes that co-living is not a temporary fix but a forward-thinking lifestyle that addresses London’s housing challenges while fostering community living. To explore how co-living is reshaping housing in London and the potential benefits for local authorities and residents alike, read the full article: https://lnkd.in/eNv4twch #CoLiving #LichfieldsResearch #LichfieldsUK #LondonHousingCrisis #ConstructionInnovation #AffordableHousingSolutions #UrbanDevelopment

New blog 📢 'Building Affordable Housing in Canmore—Without Sacrificing Quality' Building affordable housing is at the top of Canmore’s to-do list. It can be challenging to keep building costs down, but with a little planning and innovation--and the right team—it can be done. Read our latest blog for five factors to consider if you’re thinking of buying, developing, or investing in affordable housing in Canmore. “ACS understood the timeline on this project and knew the subsurface conditions, because they're building homes literally next door and across the street. They’ve been great about being open about who's involved, and who's doing what. They’re also proactive—and I quite like working with people like that. These factors really helped us decide who to build with.” Kristopher Mathieu, Canmore Community Housing Corporation Read the blog article to learn more 👇 https://lnkd.in/ggZhdm6w #BowValley #Canmore #AlbertaConstruction #AffordableHousing #ABConstruction

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved planning for our new mixed-tenure development of 84 council and market sale homes at Fanshawe Road, Cambridge. This project underscores our commitment to address housing needs in the region by providing a blend of council and market sale homes. The development will provide 45 council homes, with 34 affordable rent at 60% of the market rate, which is the Council’s standard for new builds, and 11 of the homes affordable rent at 80% of the market rate, to ensure that those who struggle to rent or buy locally and don’t qualify for council homes are still able to live in a secure, sustainable new home. There will also be 39 market sale homes. All the homes in this development will meet Passivhaus-equivalent performance standards. This commitment to sustainability not only reduces the environmental impact but also ensures that residents benefit from lower energy costs and a healthier living environment.
