One thing I've learned over the past year is that there is often a time lag between a venture funding and a PR announcement. Sometimes the delay can be over a year! Startups will put $$ in the bank and get back to work choosing a more appropriate moment to come out and tell the world what they're up to..when they've built something to show us. 😅 Maybe you too wouldn't want to announce the most important milestone of your professional life in mid August, for example 😅 SO... in a quieter climate where hiring is slower and funding announcements are delayed...in an industry where being *early* counts.. What do you do to stay current on emerging startups in your ecosystem?

#StartupJobs #FoundingEngineer #MergersAndAcquisitions #EquityCompensation Hey everyone! 🤔 I've been thinking about the risks and rewards of joining a startup as a founding engineer, and I've got a question that I’d love to hear your thoughts on! Think about it: when you’re signing up for a role at a startup, you're often taking a pay cut to earn equity, right? But what happens if that startup is acquired just a year or two after you join—especially with a 4-year vesting schedule in play? 🤷♂️ Here’s where it gets tricky: in an M&A deal, the acquiring company might look at your outstanding equity and decide it’s “too much.” Instead of recognizing the hard work and sacrifices you made to be part of this startup adventure, they might just roll your compensation back to something more “market-based.” Take this example: An employee joins a startup with a $400k equity grant. If the startup is acquired and the equity skyrockets to a $2M value with just 2 years left to vest, the acquir... Are Startup Founding Engineer Incentives Too Low to Attract Talent? The biggest mistake startups make when hiring: not making it their #1 priority. As an early stage company, your team is everything. They’re the people that propel you forward, make or break your next round of funding, and help shape the vision of the org. Investing time and effort into the interview process might seem like a drag when you’re a lean team with endless responsibilities, but it’s SO crucial for success. If you’re serious about hiring, you've got to go all in. Half-hearted efforts only hold your team back and jeopardize future growth. #hiring #hiringtips #startuplife #techstartups

Great learnings today from the ever-inspiring Daren Tan, who covered the topic of hiring for Tech/Engineering roles. It's tricky hiring tech talents, but it pretty much just boils down to the same basics in of hiring for any role: Make sure your tech hire feels like part of the team, and ensure they don't feel stuck (skills or financially or other). In the end, tech or no tech, it's all about people. Thanks for your time and invaluable sharings! Context: Daren is the founder of Developer Kaki (https://lnkd.in/gE-NE5FQ), amongst MANY other things, and conducted today morning's masterclass at the MYStartup Pre-accelerator programme which I'm currently in, run by Growth Charger - Startup Accelerator and Incubator . #startup #entrepreneurship #accelerator #preaccelerator #team #techteam #hiring #hr #trust #teamwork #learning #cradle #mystartup #growthcharger #developerkaki #developer #programmer #cto

Hi everyone! Have you ever wondered why so many people rave about working at startups, especially at the beginning of their careers? Here’s why I think it’s a game-changer: 1. Rapid Growth Opportunities: Startups move fast, and so will your career! You get to wear multiple hats, learn a variety of skills, and see the impact of your work directly. This kind of growth is unparalleled in larger, more established companies. 2. Innovative Environment: Startups are the breeding grounds for new ideas and creativity. Working in such an environment pushes you to think outside the box and adapt quickly to new challenges. 3. Close-Knit Teams: You’ll work closely with the founders and a small team, which means you get to learn directly from experienced leaders. This also fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and teamwork. 4. Flexibility and Responsibility: Startups often offer more flexible working conditions and a chance to take on significant responsibilities early on. This can be incredibly rewarding and sets a strong foundation for your future career. 5. Networking and Connections: The startup ecosystem is a close-knit community. The connections you make can open doors to new opportunities and collaborations in the future. In my experience, working at a startup early in your career is like an accelerated learning program. It’s intense, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. What are your thoughts? Have you worked at a startup? Share your experiences and let's discuss! #CareerGrowth #Startups #ProfessionalDevelopment #HR #CareerAdvice --- Feel free to tweak this to better suit your voice and specific experiences!

Tech startups vs. established companies: Where should you take your career? I’ve been thinking a lot about my career, and I wanted to share some thoughts on tech startups versus established companies. Here’s what I’ve come up with: Tech startups - A chance to work on cutting-edge projects - Every day brings new challenges and opportunities. - Often more casual vibes and work arrangements. - You can see the results of your contributions quickly. - Higher chances of burnout, but also greater potential for growth. Established companies - Reliable paycheck and benefits are a bonus. - Work alongside seasoned professionals who can mentor you. - Clear advancement opportunities and training programs. - Access to established systems that can make work easier. - Sometimes slower-moving, which can be frustrating if you crave change. So, where do I lean? 🤷♂️ It really depends on what you value more - risk and rapid growth or stability and mentorship. I’d love to hear what you think! #CareerChoices #TechStartups #CareerGrowth #WorkLifeBalance
