Angeles Garcia-Poveda, Non-Executive Director of Bridgepoint’s Group Board, and Carole BROZYNA, our Head of Sustainability, participated in the Giverny de la Gouvernance summit in Paris this week. Angeles led an insightful roundtable discussion on the partnership between Boards and management teams, exploring how strong governance can be a powerful driver of sustainable progress. Her perspectives on fostering resilience and long-term value creation resonated both with Bridgepoint’s philosophy and with the summit's focus on ‘reinvention through governance’. In a separate panel, Carole discussed the role of governance in the transformation of business models, sharing detail of Bridgepoint’s approach to collaboratively addressing this important topic with management teams across our portfolio. Our thanks to Cercle de Giverny and Chapter Zero France for hosting these interesting discussions. 👉 Read more about the event here: https://lnkd.in/gRx5u7KQ

A training program such as our Governance Roadmap to Sustainable Value Creation, diving into very recent evolutions in corporate governance, falls or stands with its participants. For the content we bring on how governance and sustainability interact, we need input and observations of our experienced directors. That's how we can create a corporate governance theoretical framework that stands against the test of time. A big thank you to our participants to make it a success! Participating in a session on "Strategy Essentials" facilitated by Craig Rust through the Institute of Directors in New Zealand prompted me to reflect on the intersection of sustainability and governance. Working with peers, we explored how to define strategic purpose and outcomes while equipping ourselves with tools for effective director implementation. The importance of adopting a helicopter view and asking questions to create or realign purpose-led organisations. Embedding sustainability in governance is a necessity for driving long-term value. The right questions can guide us in aligning strategies with sustainable practices, ensuring that we address the pressing challenges of our time.

It is important to put more focus on the role of consulting companies as agents of sustainable change and the importance of different consulting and business roles. The article below addresses this important area and there is clearly a need for more research. It is my experience that the council is strongly under-examined and an important management research area. The article below addresses important aspects of this discussion, in relation to corporate change agents for sustainable development "Consultants as discreet corporate change agents for sustainability: Transforming organizations from the outside‐in" by Jean- Pascal Gond, Luc Brès, Szilvia Mosonyi.

As complexity increases, board members can no longer rely on traditional governance models and board agendas alone to make strategic shifts. This is where board stewardship becomes critical. And while it may be uncharted territory for many board members, we see it as an essential journey to start if we are to move from intent to reality. The term Stewardship is emerging to help supervisory boards to upgrade their leadership in response to complex times with multiple demands from stakeholders. Stewardship can be defined as an attitude of feeling responsibility for the business AND its stakeholders, including society and nature. For many board members, it requires an expanded mindset: from accountability to responsibility, and from insight to oversight. This report, which I contributed to, explains this emerging concept well! We will soon launch an Board Stewardship masterclass.
