Paying it forward
Wakefern Food Corp. has always been equal parts heart ❤️ and ambition. So, with the close of the successful 2024 Wakefern Showcase, we were proud to partner with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and donate nearly four trucks of fresh foods and groceries from the Showcase supermarket displays. These donated items will help as many as 20,000 families in our region. Thanks to all the team members who volunteered to pack and load – and to the CFBNJ for their ongoing commitment and creativity in the fight against hunger.

Did you know that 47 million people in America face hunger? My company, Artisan Learning, is teaming up with Feeding America this holiday season to help chip away at that number. Feeding America is part of a nationwide network of food banks, food pantries and community-based organizations in the United States working to create a future where no one is hungry. $1 to Feeding American can provide at least 10 meals. How is that possible? (That's what I wanted to know.) One way is that they work with the food industry to rescue food that would otherwise go to waste. That's a win-win in my book. Please take a minute to donate $5, $10, $20 or more to our fundraiser. Artisan will be matching donations, so your gift will go even farther. https://lnkd.in/ebw-6Ku4

🏠 Operating Costs Covered, Thanks to Grants! 🏠 While donations help to keep our shelves stocked, grants help us cover the essential costs of running our pantry – from utilities to facility maintenance. 🌟 Grants ensure we can continue to provide a safe and welcoming environment for those in need. In 2023, 8.8 million Californians experienced food insecurity. This means that nearly 1 in every 4 individuals are unsure where their next meal will come from. Every year, lawyers across the state come together to try to provide critical funds to local food banks. So please join us in donating to your local food bank. If you don't have one, please consider donating to our firm's local food bank. Contra Costa County often receives far less resources than San Francisco and Alameda. But Contra Costa County has areas of significant need, including Richmond, Concord, and Pittsburg. https://lnkd.in/gYviBwzJ

Many counties in Southwest Virginia have received significant damages because of Helene. Many are asking how they can help and are wanting to specifically assist farmers in need. Extension Agents in Southwest Virginia are working to assess farmer needs and the availability of donations. If you have anyone interested in donating, Virginia Cooperative Extension is working to coordinate those efforts. We are trying to get materials where they are needed. VCE is working with the VIRGINIA CATTLEMENS ASSOCIATION on accepting financial donations and hope to have that set up soon. All those interested in donating can fill out this form: https://lnkd.in/e5VedmNn Any farmer affected by the storm that needs assistance can fill out this form to let VCE know: https://lnkd.in/e6H8pXGb. Extension agents will also be adding farmers to the list with their needs.

Each Fall, I embark on my "Fundraising Frenzy" to support a local organization, matching donations along the way. This year, I am dedicated to Camella's Cupboard Food Pantry for Children, a local organization that focuses on providing Food for Kids. E̲v̲e̲r̲y̲ ̲s̲t̲o̲r̲y̲ ̲i̲s̲ ̲u̲n̲i̲q̲u̲e̲,̲ ̲a̲n̲d̲ ̲f̲o̲r̲ ̲k̲i̲d̲s̲ ̲f̲a̲c̲i̲n̲g̲ ̲f̲o̲o̲d̲ ̲i̲n̲s̲e̲c̲u̲r̲i̲t̲i̲e̲s̲,̲ 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁. Camella's Cupboard Food Pantry for Children is a remarkable local initiative, sending over 500 families in the area 60 lbs of fresh food, necessities, and more each week. The need is clear - kids are going hungry. Shockingly, 1 in 6 kids in CT experience food insecurity, but since 2018, Camella's Cupboard has been making a difference. It's all about the kids. If you would like to support this cause, there are several ways to help or donate! 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐡𝐭𝐭𝐩𝐬://𝐛𝐢𝐭.𝐥𝐲/𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐂𝐮𝐩𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲. Just think if everyone I know donates $25, WOW - what a difference. https://lnkd.in/eAtanXva

In our 2023 Annual Report, we take a look at trends at FISH over the past few years, particularly comparing pre-pandemic numbers to today. What we are seeing is continued growth in need, as the high cost of living paired with fewer support resources adds more and more strain for families. One area in which we have seen considerable increases is the pounds of food we distribute each year. In 2023, FISH distributed 1,560,603 pounds of food, more than any other year in our history as an organization. Our marketplace could not run without the generous support of our community. We source food from four main sources: donations from our Broomfield grocery stores and restaurant partners, Community Food Share, in-kind donations from our neighbors (which includes food drives!), and purchased food made possible by our incredible donors and by grant funding. All of these support networks allow us to stock a variety of food and personal care items for our families so they can shop for what their families need. Learn more about our work and recent trends at bit.ly/FISH23Report. #FoodBank #FamilyResourceCenter #Trends #AnnualReport
