This Government Market News publication explores why more cities and counties are not embracing PPPs in the USA. Mary Scott Nabers tates that it is hard to to understand why some cities and states have not endorsed public-private partnerships #PPPs when they have such pressing needs. There are many resources that can be accessed. They include the billions of funding support which is available for critically needed efforts which require some percentage of private sector investment and incentivized public-private partnerships with tax credits for investors. For cities and counties leaders who are hesitant, they should take a look at the innovative projects that have been launched in the City of Alexandria, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico for inspiration. Historically, many councils have adopted scattergun approaches to funding, chasing opportunities as they arise without a coherent strategy. This reactive mindset often results in fragmented efforts and missed opportunities to align with broader goals. Our latest blog explores how councils can refine their grant management processes today, while preparing for the potential of untied funding. https://lnkd.in/grWu2JH3 #GrantWriting #FundingSubmissions #StrategicPlanning #Partnership #Grantus

As our data team (spearheaded by the talented Tristan MacHale) dives deeper into monitoring state government grants, we've encountered a significant challenge - the lack of centralized grant solicitation systems across state agencies. Even within the same state, the process of finding and tracking grant opportunities is frustratingly decentralized. Out of the 1,541 individual state agencies we've indexed, only California offers a comprehensive repository of its state grant opportunities at grants.ca.gov. Most other states provide partial lists, often buried within contract solicitation portals, leading users to underestimate the actual number of available grants at a given time. Alternatively, organizations have to manually search each state agency's website, a time-consuming and inefficient process. This challenge has been both humbling and exciting - it's pushed us to deploy creative solutions to stay on top of every grant for our customers. Ultimately, it's worth it! Every organization should have the chance to win grant funding to contribute to the public good.

This is an EXCELLENT brief, written by two small businesses, that describe not only the strengths of working with small local evaluation firms (community and cultural connections, responsive, nimble, highly networked, etc.) but also the MANY barriers that funders (often inadvertently) put up that dissuade or discourage small firms from seeking funding opportunities. Clarity on scopes of work and budget ranges are incredibly important for smaller firms - we do not have sufficient overhead to spend time pursing inappropriate opportunities. Read this brief (or the full paper!) if you are a small firm or a funder!
