🟰 Everyone deserves safe, fair, and affordable housing regardless of their gender, race, ethnicity, faith, sexual orientation, and more. April is Fair Housing Month and Celebrate Diversity Month, giving us the opportunity to uplift diverse individuals worldwide and bring light to the struggles they continue to face when accessing fair and affordable housing. 🏠 Discriminatory housing policies have long fueled inequities in health, education, wealth, and community access among marginalized individuals, enduring into the present day. "Access to a safe, decent, and affordable home can build a stable foundation for families and propel them to improve their health, boost their educational attainment, and increase their economic mobility. Publicly supported housing programs are a vital resource that can help vulnerable families access these benefits." – PAHRC's 2019 Housing Impact Report 👉 As we promote diverse voices, let us also advocate for solutions to reduce inequities. April is National Fair Housing Month. If you’ve never had housing instability and/or if you are a person with minimal marginalized identities, you may have never thought about housing discrimination. But until the Fair Housing Act was signed by President Lyndon Johnson in 1968, it was legal and widespread to discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, and family status. Today, those are illegal but landlords defy the law, harass by eviction and there's a massive shortage of affordable housing. It’s important to note that it is still legal to discriminate on the basis of size. And at SAIR, we believe that all of these need immediate legislative attention. What can you do? ➡️ ➡️ Welcome housing of various types - including higher density units and affordable housing - into your neighborhood. ➡️ ➡️ Attend town planning meetings and advocate for more affordable housing in your area. ➡️ ➡️ And make sure your local legislators know that you support fair access to housing. #fairhousingmonth #diversity #equity #inclusion #belonging #discrimination #dei #deib #unhoused #enddiscrinimation #affordablehousing

When it comes to creating respectful & inclusive workplaces, a lot of our coaching is focused on empowering leaders to identify and introduce systemic controls to improve gender equality outcomes. It works, because more equitable processes lead to more equitable outcomes. It also makes it much easier to engage everyone - because gender equality isn't just a women's issue. This initiative by Victorian Government is a great example of a systemic control designed to drive #fairness & #equity in sport. It’s 1 July 2024. From today on, every Victorian Government program that provides funding for community sport infrastructure will, as part of its eligibility criteria, require local councils to have a gender equitable access and use policy (or equivalent) in place, and to be demonstrating progress against that policy over time. Because fair access makes common sense. #FairAccess #CommunitySport #GenderEquality

Today, on the anniversary of the signing of the Fair Housing Act of 1968 we reflect on the past and ponder an evolving future. Could you imagine being denied the opportunity to purchase a house simply because of who you are? Prior to the Fair Housing Act of 1968, this discrimination was a sad reality for many. Today, we celebrate National Fair Housing Month in honor of those who fought against institutionalized discrimination. Let's continue to strive for equality in housing and beyond. #FairHousingMonth #EqualityInHousing #FairHousingAct #HousingEquality #CivilRights #EqualOpportunity

In April, we celebrate Fair Housing Month and acknowledge the importance of fair housing for all. Throughout April, fair housing activists and organizations will spotlight the critical impact their work and the work of others has had on people's lives. Every year, HUD’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) announces a theme that highlights the critical work being done across the country to promote fair housing. For 2024, the Fair Housing Month theme is “Fair Housing: The ‘Act’ in Action.” To further honor this theme and the Act, HUD will hold the 2024 Fair Housing Month Opening Ceremony on April 11, marking the 56th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s signing the Fair Housing Act, making housing discrimination unlawful. The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, and familial status. Within the Fair Housing Act is the obligation for HUD and recipients of federal funds to actively promote fair housing in their community, referred to as “affirmatively further fair housing” (AFFH). At Cloudburst, ensuring equal access to fair housing is at the core of our mission in communities nationwide. We recognize that while progress is being made, work remains to be done to ensure equitable housing for all. This Fair Housing Month, let us reaffirm our commitment to combating discrimination and taking meaningful actions to uphold the principles of the Fair Housing Act.
