regional banks and smaller community banks have 50%+ of their portfolio exposure in real estate lending (roughly 15%+ on residential , 35%+ on CRE) on average. occ has been issuing guidance on concentration risk management for the past decade, but the pursuit of yield and relatively lower risk (at least in the past that CRE always comes back despite of cycliality, with very low historical net loss) has made real estate lending very attractive to banks.
