We have been in stealth for so long now but in February 2024 we deployed BlockTexx's production and social targets to the Hedera Public Ledger - the first #textile #recycling (#circulareconomy) manufacturer in the world to adopt UNECE global standards for #traceability and #transparency in the textile supply chains. Since then we have tokenised some 1,450,000 kilograms of textile waste and 44,000,000 kilograms of abated carbon - and counting. BlockTexx have won so many awards of late because of two things: solving the problem of textile waste (soooo important!) and adopting #blockchain and #tokenisation to prove that they are not #greenwashing their targets. On day 2 of ECOM21, one of the highlights that resonated with Magnetiq Bank was the Panel Discussion on the Impact of Blockchain Technology on Traditional Banking and Financial Services. The discussion led by Dr Kelly Fenech, Partner at MK Fintech Partners, and Kriss Pujats, Co-Founder and CTO at Gravity Team, shed light on blockchain technology's transformative potential in reshaping the banking and financial services landscape. Undisclosed lab-grown diamonds are a serious concern for the jewellery and insurance industries. Industry leaders such as GIA, Stuller, and many others have reported instances of mixed parcels (where natural diamonds are combined with undisclosed lab-grown stones) and inscription fraud (where lab-grown diamonds are falsely inscribed with the report numbers from genuine stones). In response, many have highlighted the incredibly strict controls and advanced tech they have in place to detect them. But like most things that are manufactured, production will improve the quality and reduce the cost. This means the tech used to detect them will also need to improve. As we start seeing cheaper lab-grown diamonds, the testing equipment becomes more expensive—making it financially unviable to test smaller stones. I've previously talked about how lab-grown diamonds are becoming their own product, but in this scenario, you can see how they could dilute or impact the value of naturally mined diamonds. This is where I believe certification and evidence of provenance help. Companies like Aura Consortium and Everledger are already using blockchain to create visibility in the supply chain for luxury products. GIA also provides a 'Same-Day Report Verification' to support industry identification.
