Celebrating Black Excellence inspiring the next generation. Today, I am celebrating the incredible Simone Biles the greatest of all times gymnast with my daughter. Relflecting on her remarkable journey and sharing her story with the next generation. As we honour Black History Month, it’s a powerful reminder of why these stories matter. Simone Biles isn’t just a world class athlete - she’s a symbol of perseverance, resilience, and grace in the face of adversity. Her journey inspires us all to dream big and overcome challenges, no matter what obstacles stand in our way. Sharing stories like hers is so important, especially with young people, because they need to see Black individuals excelling in every field, breaking barriers and redefining what’s possible. For the next generation, seeing role models like Simone fosters pride in their identity and reminds them they can achieve greatness. During Black History Month, we amplify these narratives to inspire children to dream with confidence, build resilience, and take pride in who they are. Kike Oniwinde Agoro shared her journey to founding the BYP Network, bringing together Black professionals to provide mutual support and growth, and looked at practical steps we can take in campus and commercial services to create a more diverse workforce. Where there is no struggle, there is no strength. “How was Cannes?” has been the most asked question in all my meetings across July. Cannes was heavy, for many reasons. I dislike the way the Black community are treated in society and across the industry. But I’m encouraged by the strength we continue to have in the face of apathy and push back. A part of me is tired, a part of me is encouraged. I successfully funded and facilitated the presence of 70 Black people at the festival out of 1,000 + who applied. Did many companies across the industry lean in? No, do any of them genuinely care? I’m not sure. I’d like to believe they do, but I only ever see them lean in when they’re supporting the 1 or hand full of Black people they think are palatable at any given time or when it involves taking from our culture and giving us nothing in return. “Nothing about us without us.” Whether people in the industry want us around or not, it is important we continue to show up, we continue to contribute and we continue to add value where we find the strength. Finding unity where possible, and laying a stronger foundation for the generations to come. Where there is no struggle, there is no strength.
