Check out this podcast...thank you to Chera Reid, PhD , Efrain Gutierrez , and Trinel Torian, PhD for creating the space to have this conversation in which we discussed how we/communities are in relationship with one another. We must be intentional in supporting access, inclusion, and justice. When folks can share and receive what they need to fully participate (and lead) and we are deliberate in challenging ourselves about what other perspectives are missing in decision-making, it strengthens philanthropy and fosters everyone's ability to thrive and dream.
Our Executive Director, Ryan Easterly, was a recent guest on the "Becoming The Vision" podcast by Freedom Dreams in Philanthropy! 🎙 They had an insightful conversation about the importance of having community in philanthropy, and the ongoing need to reduce harm and promote inclusion in the sector. If you have ever wondered what philosophers have had to say about philanthropy through the ages, then FYI that one of the earliest episodes of the Philanthropisms podcast was on this very theme, so do have a listen: https://lnkd.in/eQPesWDn (And if you want any accompanying reading, I made a list of interesting sources on the philosophy of philanthropy to go along with the episode too: https://lnkd.in/ecJG2iCU)

I joined Ruwwadjo as a scholar in 2016, and with Ruwwad's support, I managed to continue my studies and earn a degree in Civil and Infrastructure Engineering. Since then, Ruwwad has become part of my identity, and if you know me, you’ve probably heard me talk about this life-changing experience. Ruwwad is all about the #community. It’s a model that should be taught, demonstrating how #social_entrepreneurs are shaping and changing communities by creating a #long_lasting_impact. This is the kind of impact every #social_entrepreneur should aim for. "𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞, 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠-𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐮𝐧" This #golden rule is essential for anyone working to create #systemic_change. In today’s fast-paced world, where only seeking profit, quick fixes, and immediate achievements are often celebrated, it’s crucial to showcase what real change looks like and to celebrate the long-lasting impact that organizations like #Ruwwad create. "Giving money is the easiest part—there’s no #innovation in that." If you want to learn more about #Ruwwad’s journey, I encourage you to listen to this podcast hosted by Anissa Punjani where Fadi Ghandour shares the organization’s story. I graduated from Ruwwad, but Ruwwad will always be with me. Through my work, I will shape societies and create a #systematic_change, just like Ruwwad shaped me during my learning journey. I had a great conversation with Anissa Punjani, on strategic Philanthropy, activism, the Ruwwadjo model, and other subjects that might be of interest, take a listen. My family and I try to give around Giving Tuesday as there are often matching incentives that multiply the impact. We tend to focus on education organizations, not only because it is very relevant to our current phase of life with two young kids, but also because we believe that a solid, equitable education foundation leads to healthier, happier, more successful communities. Share if you will be giving and where on the post below!

🎧 Have you ever felt like you’re pushing a boulder uphill in your fundraising role? 🌄 Starting a new position only to find no supporter base in place can be daunting. Maybe you’re tasked with launching your organization's first major giving program. Or perhaps you need to restructure development operations to rely less on grants and more on individual support. I’ve been there. It was hard, slow, and often felt like getting nowhere. But every step, every metric, was a step towards turning things around. Trusting the process, keeping an eye on metrics, and believing that results would follow made all the difference. And guess what? They did. Two years later, we rebuilt our base and created a stronger, more engaged community than ever. 💪 Catch the full story and actionable insights in our latest podcast episode!
