A Milestone! @HTADesignllp has become a Certified B Corporation.   The B Corp movement exists to promote change to our economic system, addressing society’s critical challenges, to benefit all people, communities and the planet. It aims to make business a force for good, driving higher standards of social and environmental responsibility, by balancing purpose with profit.   As a practice, we believe the goal of B Corp aligns very closely with our culture and core values. Already recognised as a leading employer, and with a deliverable plan underway to reach net zero, we felt it was important to measure our performance more empirically against the benchmark standard set by B Corp. The rigorous assessment was completed over the course of a year, and was both validation of our approach, and an invaluable signpost to further improvements in how we operate. The “B” in B Corp stands for “Benefit for All,” and validates HTA’s long-standing commitment to ethical business practices, transparency, and accountability in every aspect of our practice.   We are thrilled to join this growing global community, to be able to share lessons and best practice with like-minded businesses. B Corps are companies that meet high social and environmental standards. That sounds great, but what does that exactly mean? 👀 To be eligible for B Corp certification, a company must first complete the B Impact Assessment. This is an online tool, consisting of +/- 200 questions about your company. The questions are divided into 5 areas: 🏢 Governance: How do you make sure your company's governance considers all stakeholders? 👷♀️ Workers: How is your company taking care of your workers, improving their lives and wellbeing? 🌍 Environment: How is your company prioritizing and taking care of the planet? 👭 Community: How is your company giving back and contributing positively to the community? 👛 Customers: How is you company having a positive impact on your customers' lives? One of our key distinguishing features is our turnaround times. Our full board meets weekly allowing protocols to be reviewed weekly , while expedited reviews are completed the same day they are submitted. Over 8,600 companies across 162 industries in 98 countries have achieved B Corp certification. With 2,000 of those companies thirving in the UK. To become a certified B Corp, companies must complete the B Impact Assessment, a comprehensive assessment of a company's impact on its workers, community, environment, customers and it's governance. Certified B Corps also amend their legal governing documents to require their board of directors to balance profit and purpose. It's the end of B Corp Month, and time to reflect on our journey, in line with this year's theme, 'This Way Forward’, emphasising that B Corps are not just about achieving certification. The theme celebrates our ongoing commitment to our impact on society and the environment. Since our B Corp certification in 2016, starting with a score of 90.2 and now at 116.5, we are proud of our ‘Way Forward’ across key areas. This score shows that over the past 8 years, we enhanced our governance, fostered community ties, progressed our environmental sustainability, and strengthened customer relations – one point at a time. These scores are not just numbers to us; they represent our active evolution as an organisation. And our team is actively engaged in celebrating and building the movement. Our Director of Impact and Engagement recently attended the B-Corp Assembly in Cape Schanck on beautiful Bunurong Country, our Practice Manager dedicated his MBA dissertation to ethical business, and our team regularly celebrates and shares stories of the latest organisations to achieve B Corp certification. Btw, did you know 99 Bikes is now a B Corp? 😉 With this in mind, 'This Way Forward' is about us developing as an organisation, but also about sharing the power of business to the wider world - that's why we intend to actively support the Queensland network of B-Corps to grow and become more connected.
