Spent my Saturday night collecting for Biko’s #AfroSexyCool party. While swiping cards, making change and wrapping wristbands for two deboarded party buses of tipsy folks in about a 2 foot space, I heard the MC say it was one of the cohosting DJ’s debut. I’ve been working doors for Biko for at least 6 years. I know how much he does to maintain his brand but the joint chaos and beauty of that moment reminded me how business-minded you have to be to be a creative. Biko had a brand new DJ alongside a world-touring DJ. He makes all his graphics, tshirts and visuals. He builds relationships with venues/bars to better ensure profitability. He partners with deeply impactful institutions in the region. And he keeps the people he works with paid. Creatives do it all - the artisty and theatrics, the logistics, the bookkeeping and projections, the people-advocacy. I talked to a few artists after the event and they expressed their love of the beauty and chaos of entertainment and the arts. Many of them have 9to5s but feel stuck and small there - it’s just something they have to do. I get called a creative often and I always reject the label. My line is: I am creative (adj) but not ‘a creative’ (noun). I realize my hesitation in being called a creative has less to do with learning new tools or assuming a title I deeply respect in others. It’s more about my fear of being stifled. Creatives use both sides of the brain to not just make things cool/pretty but to give cool, pretty things measurable reach and impact. To put creatives into one or the other small box is a detriment to the progress of cities, companies, and most importantly to the creative. If you give creatives the mic, not just on the stage but also in the boardroom, they may surprise you by being exactly who they are.

With this in mind, we asked our teams for their scariest imaginations: Administration: “Hotel booking for the next day, where there is a trade fair in the same city at the same time. Hotel in the centre, please.” ⛺ FAE: “After a long day and before the last meeting of the day, you want to grab a quick espresso. The coffee machine is already switched off and cold. “ 😫 Controlling: “While you have been working on an analysis all day, the programme suddenly crashes. No version run available.” 😤 Sales: "A customer wants a short meeting with two technical employees. Instead, 20 people are there expecting a detailed presentation." 🥶 These are just possible 'horror' scenarios that spring from our imagination. Everyone is probably familiar with the fear of failing or not mastering an impossible challenge. We at #KEO find that the greatest successes often come from the greatest challenges. A Big+Bold thank you to all the team, clients, partners and extended network. In 2023 we had a vision to build a creative studio that would be more collaborative and less competitive. Our industry has always been inherently insular and closed. That doesn’t drive creativity, and it doesn’t deliver the best results for our clients. We wanted to work with others in our industry to try and raise the bar for our sector locally and internationally. We believed that we could produce great award-winning work, without compromising on a healthy work life balance, our morals, and our standards. We aimed to build a business for good – while still producing effective work. Since setting out on that journey, the team has grown, we’ve moved into our new offices, we’ve become a certified B Corp with B Lab UK, and we have launched a collaborative network across Ireland in the form of IRENE, with some of our partners. We’ve launched multiple new brands, new campaigns, new websites, and digital experiences. We have also started new client journeys in Singapore, London, San Francisco, Florida, Zurich, Kyoto, and of course across the island of Ireland. But don’t let this post fool you. This isn’t just another person on LinkedIn blowing their own trumpet. It's been tough, and it's important as businesses and individuals, to acknowledge the challenges. I also want to highlight that business is hard fought and hard won, so we’re continuously striving for better. We need to produce better work and we continue to grow the team as we currently recruit two new roles. As a team, we will continue to deliver positive results for our existing clients and for all the clients we hope to partner with in 2025. With that in mind, it’s important that we all take the time off that we deserve and need over Christmas. So, thanks again to everyone that has supported us – whether you’re just down the road, or across the globe – we wouldn’t exist without you, and we’re proud to work with you and for you. The most diverse Alt Rap Artist you’ve yet to discover! That’s a mighty big claim huh? So what does this mean & just who is this artist? Before I introduce you allow me to explain why & what makes him “Alt” or alternative. Wesly as an artist refuses to conform to any of the traditional or more popular stereotypes of Rap, such as Trap, Drill, Grime or even mainstream Rap. Instead, he blurs genres drawing equally from Funk & Pop/Rock, as well as Jazz, Soul, Folk & is heavily inspired by the energy & music of Punk. His tracks are so diverse ranging from LoFi to DnB to CloudRap to UKG to Boom Bap to weird Sci-Fi inspired experimental tracks to Rage Rap & he’s even working on some live Punk Rock inspired Hip Hop. The consistency that Wes injects in to his music is the relatability of his lyrics as his expresses his views of the world & his uncompromising stance on remaining uniquely different. In an overcrowded market filled with a seemingly never ending supply of negative stereotypes fuelling inner city misery & despair that spills into & influences beyond its boundaries, Wes stands conversely apart from what most people consider to be Hip Hop or Rap. After taking a year out to regroup, Wes returns with “Nonchalant” his latest release (available on all streaming platforms) featuring a heavily chopped up Pink Pantheress inspired beat with a video filmed in various Bristol locations - hit me back if you recognise any of the spots. Nonchalant is possibly the most contemporary track in Wesly’s repertoire right now which was why we decided to release it first. We’ve got several releases planned to follow up along with an EP & new tracks are being written & contributed towards an end of year LP. It’s an exciting time right now as I’m securing live shows for Wes to add to his confirmed slots in Bristol London & Brighton. He’s a familiar face on the Bristol live scene & has performed in London a few times so his show experience & confidence is growing all the time.
