INTRODUCTION TO SUSTAINABLE AGRIBUSINESS LEADERSHIP. 'Follow who know road' is a popular saying, especially in this part of the world. I have always wondered if there can ever be a space in my heart for anything agric related and if I can ever have a space in the world of agriculture. Since I'm not one that believes that if there are people doing well at something then I can as well. This made me go in search of more knowledge and if possible a guidance through the way. I found Mentorship Accelerator Program organized by the Future Forward Farmers Hub the best fit for what I seek for. For the 21 days that this mentorship will take place, I will see to it that even in inconveniences I am committed to staying through to the end. I have chosen not to be discouraged by the fact that I had already missed out a day( the meet and greet session), rather I will make the best use of the remaining days. At this end of this program: - I want to see a transformed and a confident me who is ready to take a giant stride into the 'world of the greens' -I want to have been able to form a strong and beautiful friendship with my co-mentors, even one that will last beyond the mentorship period. One of the life-changing lessons I learned while mapping Uganda's food system from the Rootical bootcamp was the importance of empathy. It is a cornerstone at EcoLogic Social Enterprise and something I proudly emphasize in every discussion on venture building. At EcoLogic Social Enterprise, empathy drives every business operation. 💡 Rootical's Uganda food system analysis webinar recap. We recently had an insightful discussion about Uganda’s #FoodSystem, our approach to building commercially viable, scalable and impactful #AgriFood businesses and the results from our shared food system analysis with a cohort of 40 food system leaders consisting of up to 200+food system forces and information clusters. #Rootical is Africa’s pioneering regenerative start up studio, we support purpose driven entrepreneurs to build and own their #regenerative #agribusinesses that are commercially Viable, Scalable and Impactful (CSI) designed to transform the food system of Uganda. Thanks to everyone that joined us as we presented Rootical’s blueprint for regenerating the Ugandan food system  which delves deep into the gaps and opportunities in the Ugandan food system with a systems thinking lens and also as we introduced our #Agroecological Community of Practice. Innocent Ociti, one of the founders in the Rootical studio shared his experience of being part of the participatory food system analysis and the Rootical Systemic Venture Building process highlighting that “All good innovation relies on empathy, put yourself in the farmers shoes.” Hannes Van den Eeckhout; the founder and director of Rootical, shared the food system analysis blueprint and key findings highlighting the methodology, some of the most critical loops, the design opportunities that resulted from the analysis and the businesses we are actively building in the studio currently. “Limited innovative models in Uganda, justifies the need for Rootical to start with a systems mapping approach. By cultivating professional agribusinesses, Nuru builds resilience and pathways to prosperity in marginalized farming communities. Nuru Sr. Impact & Markets Associate Bethany Ibrahim recently attended IFC Agribusiness’ Smallholder Supply Chain Workshop. The event brought together IFC - International Finance Corporation, Agribusiness Leadership Program (ALP) experts, and AMEA (Agribusiness Market Ecosystem Alliance) partners like Nuru, giving them a platform to discuss the ALP and identify opportunities for collaboration. The ALP aims to help agribusinesses improve their business skills and build stronger, more sustainable supply chains. The program is crucial to Nuru as local organizations customize ALP content for their Cooperative Development curriculum. They adapt the learning material to the local context and dialects to train agribusiness cooperative members. “Sharing our positive experiences with ALP and, where feasible, blended learning approaches led by our locally-driven teams allowed us to offer insights for enhancing value in the AMEA network and promoting ongoing learning,” Bethany shared. #Agribusiness #SustainableAgriculture #SmallholderFarmers #LocalLeadership

Goal-setting is the process of identifying something you want to accomplish and establishing measurable and specific objectives to achieve it. Setting goals gives your life direction, and boosts your motivation and self-confidence. As an Agripenuer who wants to make good profit and have their business still running, there is a great need for clear and achievable goals. To do this, some questions have to come into consideration; 1) What is the particular problem you are solving? 2) How do you intend to solve the problems? 3) How long will it take you to achieve this goal? 4) What resources do you have or will need to make sure this goal is achieved? 5)Readiness to handle hurdles during times of challenges. Some goals among many in joining the mentorship program are; I want to be a climate smart farmer so I could be of help in the area of food security. I need knowledge of the right things to do and put in place, so joining the mentorship program is an avenue to acquiring the needed knowledge. Connect with like-minded agriprenuer, and develop my leadership skills. The opening article of this month's Harvard Business Review, "Learning Emerging Skills Doesn't Always Pay Off" supports a point made by Jon Leafstedt of Kincannon & Reed Global Executive Search at the #ASTAFieldCrops Conference about being prepared for career changes. In a relatively stable like agriculture (Yes, we are more stable than all sectors except education) industry-specific skills are highly valuable. The HBR article goes so far as to suggest that we get even more core in our training and development to focus on skills that are transferable across sectors and are required at every level in the organization. The American Seed Trade Association #LeadershipSummit is a place where those in the seed sector can learn about industry-specific skills.
