Every profession needs strategies for managing future challenges. For our last priority for healthcare reform ahead of tonight’s Budget, we’ve gazed into our crystal ball and have set out structural changes our workforce needs to make now, to be fully-equipped to provide the best care in the future. In addition, it has never been clearer that acting on climate change is the most critical and pressing public health intervention in human history. Watch as Abeshek Nadarajah APAM (APA’s early career representative) and Calum Neish (APA’s student representative) explain our final priority for healthcare reform.

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about how we’re at pivotal point in our healthcare system, filled with opportunities to innovate and transform. I’d like to continue offering this perspective as we think about the next few years of the Trump administration and its implications for healthcare. While healthcare was not a critical point of discussion in this election, we can all agree it's a bipartisan issue. As we move into a new administration, I’m challenging myself to identify the main areas of opportunities where we can build bipartisan support and push for meaningful change (e.g., data interoperability and transparency). As I dive deeper into this research , I welcome your thoughts and perspectives. Where do you see the greatest opportunities for bipartisan collaboration? I will compile your thoughts and my research and share back the findings. Without a doubt, it’s a challenging time to be a public health professional in this politically charged environment. Many of us entered this field because of a passion for advocacy and the desire to create equitable systems that support all. Today, our work may face more barriers than in the past, but that only strengthens our resolve to advocate for the communities and causes we believe in. As public health professionals, we must think critically about building a healthcare system that works for all, regardless of political affiliation or personal beliefs. I encourage you all to think about the moment that sparked your passion for public health- hold onto that feeling and let it drive you forward over the next few years and beyond. For me, my biggest priority is ensuring we continue actively listening to each other, approaching our work with more empathy and compassion.

Please share and send this to your Senators and House members in your state as just one example of why Trump's picks are so important tt a new better and greater America. Thank you. A Stakeholder's Perspective on RFK Jr.'s Appointment to HHS Public health in America is at a critical juncture, with chronic diseases on the rise and widespread mistrust in healthcare institutions. RFK Jr.’s appointment to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) offers an opportunity to address these systemic challenges by promoting transparency, innovation, and individual medical autonomy. As a proven advocate for reform, RFK Jr. brings a fresh perspective to entrenched bureaucratic systems, aiming to prioritize evidence-based practices and patient-centered policies that better align with the public’s needs. Critics of RFK Jr.’s appointment often dismiss his approach as unconventional. Yet, his commitment to questioning outdated public health strategies and fostering open dialogue is precisely what the current system needs. Transparency in healthcare decision-making is crucial for rebuilding public trust, empowering patients, and addressing long-standing inefficiencies in federal health agencies. RFK Jr.’s emphasis on involving diverse stakeholders and encouraging grassroots participation ensures that health policies reflect the voices of the people they serve. RFK Jr.’s leadership has the potential to transform America’s health infrastructure by challenging existing paradigms and restoring faith in public institutions. His focus on addressing chronic diseases, encouraging collaborative solutions, and empowering individuals through access to information marks a significant step toward a more inclusive and effective healthcare system. Supporting his vision means advocating for a healthcare future that prioritizes innovation, accountability, and the well-being of all Americans.

Strategic Plan 2026 is momentous for Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute. It is our inaugural joint strategic plan, and it is the foundation by which we expect to see significant progress in patient care and health research. It is the foundation for ensuring our teams can provide the best possible health care at all times and that patients are at the centre of everything we do. This plan was built on extensive engagement with staff, patients, families, the public, volunteers, and health service providers. And, we continue to engage and report back to our community on our progress – refining the plan as needed to make sure we are getting it right and responding to patients, families, and community needs. To ensure we provide the best possible healthcare experience, we are strengthening our commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. We are taking action to create a more culturally safe and compassionate health care environment — to ensure equity for all throughout our Hospital and Health Research Institute. Initiatives include mandatory cultural safety and equity, diversity, and inclusion training for all staff. As we continue to acknowledge and respect the resilience of Indigenous Peoples and communities. Opportunities are available for our staff to learn more about Indigenous history, culture, and traditions. These educational opportunities will support our collective efforts toward truth and reconciliation. We will also ensure the inclusivity of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and all equity-deserving groups. The implementation of these initiatives will make certain we are providing a positive experience for not only patients and their families but also for our staff. At the end of the day, we believe a Strategic Plan is more than an operational roadmap. It is about people — the people we serve and the people who are there on the frontlines helping people day in and day out. We will create a more inclusive experience for all who walk through our doors because we all belong.
