#BuildingBridgesforaSustainableFuture Last week, I had the opportunity to attend an inspiring conference organized by The Green Institute on sustainability titled "Building Bridges for a Sustainable Future". This event brought together experts from the environmental sector and passionate innovators who shared their ideas on how to create a greener and more resilient future for our planet. One of the key themes of the conference was the importance of collaboration and building bridges between different actors in society. Whether it's governments, businesses, NGOs, or citizens, it is crucial to work together to address the environmental challenges we face. A highlight of the conference was the discussion on technological innovation for sustainability. Concrete examples were presented, demonstrating how technology can be used to create smart and sustainable solutions for the environment, such as renewable energy, eco-friendly transportation, and environmentally friendly agricultural practices. Another important theme addressed during the conference was education and awareness. It was emphasized how essential it is to educate the public on environmental issues and encourage positive behavior changes to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. In conclusion, this conference provided me with an optimistic vision for the future. By building bridges between different actors in society, focusing on innovation and education, we can all contribute to building a sustainable future for our planet. Science changes the world every day. It is at the forefront of finding solutions to climate change and its impacts on our health. But all types of research – whether in a lab, on a computer, or out in the field – can affect our planet and our health 🌍 🔬 That's why at the Wellcome Sanger Institute we’re on a mission to find new ways to reduce our impact on the environment, cut down our carbon footprint and achieve Net Zero status by 2030. We've signed up to a concordat with Wellcome Trust, along with 17 other UK organisations, making a commitment to to do science in a way that’s better for the environment. #Bioeconomy at work 🌲👷🌊 Big applause to the European Forest Institute EFI Bioregions Facility for gathering policymakers, civil society, regional leaders, researchers, voluntary sustainability standards, and more—all united to help crafting a new EU #BioeconomyStrategy that champions renewable materials while protecting natural ecosystems. Not an easy balance to strike! 🎤 Highlights of the day: European Commission on stage: Emmanuelle Maire and Peter Wehrheim painted an inspiring picture of how the future EU bioeconomy strategy shall align with #CircularEconomy 🔃♻️ Nicoló Giacomuzzi-Moore showed concrete examples of SMEs innovating resource use and reuse. Proof that with funding, trust, and empowerment, small businesses can make a big impact and lead the way. Well done Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) 💡👏 my favorite project was SWEETWOODS. Check them out! Across Europe, national and regional #bioeconomy initiatives are already in motion—each tailored to local contexts. There’s momentum and vision, yet we need more solutions and stories to shape the narrative to ensure sustainability drives every step. 🪜🌿The real challenge remain tackling consumption patterns alongside bioeconomy goals.
