Over two billion people worldwide lack access to essential healthcare. Takeda’s Area Head for India and Southeast Asia, Dion Warren, believes that medicine should reach everyone, regardless of location. This belief led to the creation of the Access to Medicines programme as part of Takeda’s ethos in 2016, aiming to deliver vital treatments in Southeast Asia, where barriers such as affordability and fragmented systems persist. A key strategy includes a tiered pricing model tailored to each country’s economic profile, along with affordability programs that assess patients' financial capabilities. This initiative has reached 19 countries, providing access to over 6,700 patients. For Dion, it’s about embedding healthcare service into core operations to ensure no patient is left behind. Beyond helping patients with affordability, Takeda hopes to create lasting change in the countries they operate in, whether by encouraging government reforms or introducing their new dengue vaccine. Should public health care systems approve the reimbursement of new drugs with no to unnoticeable health improving results and serious adverse events just because they might indicate a new path to treatment?  The discussion is now about NICE rejecting reimbursement of #Lecanemab, a controversial very very expensive, but only available drug for #Alzheimer disease. The fact that it can be available privately is not a consolation for British patients and families.  What is your opinion on the old debate on how much should medicines cost or how much should pharma companies earn to foster innovation?
