On June 19, 1865, the last African American slaves in Texas were finally notified of their freedom. Known as Juneteenth or Emancipation Day, June 19 commemorates the end of slavery and is celebrated with joy and pride in African American communities across the United States. Juneteenth is more than just a celebration. It is a powerful reminder of the progress made recognizing the dignity and human rights of African Americans. However, despite the achievements of the civil rights movement and other advances, African Americans still grapple with the legacy of slavery. Structural racism and historical inequalities continue to affect their daily lives and harm their communities. We must unite to confront injustices, both past and present. Together, we can end racially motivated violence and discrimination and address the root causes including intergenerational poverty and socioeconomic marginalization. Without justice and reparation for past violations, affected communities will continue to suffer. To learn more about ICTJ’s work on racial justice in the United States, watch our video "Blood on the Root" here. This compelling documentary sheds light on the enduring impact of lynching and historical racism in Maryland and the urgent need for comprehensive justice. Together, let's work towards a more just and equitable world, where every person, regardless of their race or identity, can live free from oppression and discrimination. https://lnkd.in/eahqwtZN

I wrote an article about "The Melanin Theory", link down below. “Racism and white aggression are the result of a lack of melanin. This genetic deficiency is responsible for the hostility of whites towards black people…”. This sentence of Frances Cress Welsing summarizes the ideology that has governed part of the Black Conscious Community in the last few years. The African American community has always had nationalist and separatist leaders within it, just think for example of Marcus Garvey or Martin Delany, but never before have we reached such extreme Afrocentrism and racism as in recent years. The African American academic community has transformed over time into what it initially fought for. If before it was important to fight for civil rights and equality against discrimination and injustice, now it is vitally important to enhance and “scientifically” prove the black supremacy. Academic theories on white racial inferiority arise from a deep resentment that has its roots in various events in history, such as the slave trade or American racial segregation, which have profoundly affected the black community. It is precisely this resentment that has led, starting from the 90's, to the spread of “Melanin theory”, a form of reverse racism and opposite image of white supremacism, deeply rooted and widely supported within the Afrocentric community. Among the proponents of this doctrine there are the so-called “melanists“ or “melanin researchers”, as Frances Cress Welsing, Leonard Jeffries, Carol Barnes, Naim Akbar And Anthony T. Browder and many others. #melanin #pseudoscience #blacksupremacy #melanintheory #blackcommunity #afrocentrism

"As a fundamental rule, every action we engage in has equal and opposite reactions. If our actions are unlawful and we engage in them, we are opening ourselves up to penalties and punishments for this regardless of whether we were aware of the unlawfulness of these actions or not. So, at a base level, it is important to understand the laws that apply to our actions. There is no practical workaround here. Although I do not necessarily disagree with your claim that the number and complexity of laws make it an unrealistic expectation for the average citizen to comprehend, society operates and functions according to laws. Without these laws, there will be lawlessness in that society. And because laws are not individualized to each citizen–an absurd expectation because it would be virtually impossible to have a fair and just system where laws were individualized to people and not standardized to conduct–laws are made to apply to the whole collective of a society to ensure fairness and justice in that society." (Excerpt from Patients in an Asylum, pp. 7-8) How do the masters manipulate and control citizens of society? Why are a majority of citizens living like patients in an asylum and they don't seem to know or care? Are people really that vulnerable to suggestion and influence? Are citizens controlled by laws, psychological conditioning, propaganda, drugs, technology, or a combination of these? What can people do to break out of the asylum of society? This book, Patients in an Asylum, from the series The Sage and the Seeker, uses a question-and-answer method to address the pressing issue of our time: most people's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are manipulated and controlled by unseen powers behind the power and most people are unaware this is so. For those who are aware, the only real way to achieve freedom from this control is to learn to critically think. Taking the position that a road paved with truth, reconciliation, and reparation is the road less traveled in our racial and sociocultural healing and our search for human resonance, this presentation seeks to face our toxic history and asks the question “How do we heal?” It also asks the question “How do we move to sharing power and human resonance in our diverse world, given our cumulative trauma of prejudice, discrimination, racism, immeasurable global human suffering, cruelty, domination, oppression, home-grown domestic and police violence, war, and genocide?” Weaving in topics such as the 2014 murder of Michael Brown, Dr. Kliger will encourage us to hold in mind others who remain the “unheard and unseen;” those whose emotional, mental, and spiritual safety and security is not assured—including our Black and brown, Indigenous, Asian, and Jewish communities, from younger to elder, gendered, transgender, and nonbinary neighbors. She aims to foster our ability to integrate the destructive, cumulative, and collective trauma our ancestors passed on to us as well as our inheritance of their adaptive strengths and gifts. The ultimate goal of this presentation is to arise out anew, wiser, more ably exposed, and emotionally ready for Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation to take hold within ourselves, and then, to expand the inner communal circle to see and be with the Truth residing in others.
