Yesterday, I started my day in the Melbourne for Xero roadshow #3. Today, I’m in Cairns to do it all again. We made some rookie mistakes at our first roadshows. Seeing companies like Daniel Steinhauser/Clayton Wood from Seamlss and Lauren Crawford from Translucent nail it, gave us insight into how we could improve. What didn’t work: ❌ White shirts with a small Rechargly logo (not eye-catching) ❌ Our banner didn’t clearly explain what we do ❌ Using “millennial” language like “pick the best meme” on our contest didn’t land What we changed: ✅ Bright purple shirts with a large logo (more visible and memorable) ✅ accionvegana all banner copy to the top ✅ Never stand behind the table unless we’re giving a demo We had more conversations in Narre Warren than at the other two roadshows combined. Maybe the location played a part, but these tweaks made a big difference. These changes might seem obvious, but it wasn’t at the time. Have you done a trade show before? When we first started in business, i was handed the responsibility of the accounts. Although i thought that was the boring bit, i very quickly knew i was completely in touch with the business and how it run. It was fascinating how hard you could work with so little left in the pot - a real eye opener. Originally i would print off reports and bring everyone up to date. I did enjoy having my finger on the pulse, but as we grew and people became busier we reported less. At that stage we had Mark Donaldson 📊 introduce us to his dashboards. This allowed the team visibility on how we were doing and encouraged the accounts to be up to date. After 5 years of threatening, we moved from sage (our comfort blanket) over to xero mainly due to the tech advances in bank rec, invoice input & other softwares that made payments easier to send & receive, but this meant we lost our dashboards. Thankfully mark & the team at Roveel have been working to get these compatible with #xero and we have re-connected with our transparancy to the team CIM Signs & Graphics We are not a sales lead / heavy sales driven team, but we like the team to understand budgets, turnover and generally how we sre doing & swift visibility rather than sit down meetings keeps it fresh…. I would recommend this technology & found out how much we missed it during the transition! #transparancy #accounting #dashboards #team
