Why Haven't Airlines Cracked Interline Ticketing with NDC Yet? A humorous take on a serious question. Ah, interline ticketing—a topic that sparks joy & dread in the hearts of airline IT departments. With NDC (New Distribution Capability) promising to revolutionize how we book flights, you’d think interline ticketing would be a piece of cake by now. But here we are, still trying to get airlines to play nicely together in the sandbox. So, why hasn’t it happened yet? The “Herding Cats” Problem: Getting multiple airlines to agree on the same technical standards, processes, and data formats is like trying to organize a group of cats. Each airline has its own systems, priorities, and quirks. And let’s face it, cats don’t like to share! The “Who’s on First?” Dilemma: Interline agreements involve complex revenue sharing, passenger data exchange, and operational coordination. Everyone’s trying to figure out who’s responsible for what, and in the meantime, the passenger is left wondering who’s flying the plane. Standards Are Great… Until They’re Not: While NDC is all about standardization, the reality is that different airlines interpret these standards in slightly different ways. It’s like everyone is cooking from the same recipe but adding their own secret ingredients. The result? A stew that doesn’t always taste the same. But don’t lose hope! The industry is making strides, and with each NDC version, we’re getting closer to making interline ticketing as seamless as booking a single airline. It’s a journey, and like any good trip, it’s taking a bit longer than expected—but we’ll get there. 🙂 So, here’s to the dream of booking a multi-airline itinerary without a headache, and to all the airline IT folks out there who are making it happen (or at least trying to). Keep up the good work! #Aviation #Airlines #NDC #Airlineindustry #InterlineTicketing #TravelTech #Innovation #AirlineIT #IATA #Airlineretailing #Ancillaries #LCC #FSC #ULCC

NDC is a new(ish) XML-based data transmission standard, launched by IATA. That might sound daunting, but essentially, it’s just another content source that helps travel agencies like you sell personalized, distinctive, and competitive airline offers. As a retailer, the real challenge is being able to combine all content types to sell and service the full trip. To do that, you need to know your EDI-FACTs from your NDC fiction — and you need the right technology in your corner. Travelport is that the right technology is for you. Travelport NDC The real deal on NDC and Travelport+ is the only platform making it work for modern agency retailing. #Travelport #TravelportNDC #NDC #GDS

Booking flights through online travel agencies (OTAs) or third-party platforms often limits travelers to just a basic seat, with minimal details about the airline’s services. But with International Air Transport Association (IATA)'s New Distribution Capability (NDC) and offer and order management (OOM) systems, airlines can transform the experience. OOM systems act as the bridge between an airline’s passenger service system and distribution channels, enabling 🔹 the creation of personalized offers, 🔹 continuous pricing, 🔹 BSP/ARC and card transactions, 🔹 managing the entire lifecycle of orders, and 🔹 sales reporting. Despite the industry's gradual transition, the need for backward compatibility with legacy systems remains vital. Our latest article dives into its importance and shares valuable insights and lessons we've learned from building an airline distribution hub with this functionality Link to the full article in the comments 👇👇👇

CitizenPlane and Travel Technology Interactive (a CitizenPlane company) have been on a worldwide tour following the launch of the CitizenPlane Operating System. At every event, from T2RL Engage and the World Aviation Festival to the IATA World Passenger Symposium, the topic of Offer & Order transformation was on every agenda. But what does it mean for mid-tier airlines? We think their position is underrepresented in industry discussion. ↔️ 64% of Tier 1 airlines are onboard with NDC, while only 16% of Tier 3 airlines and less than 1% of Tier 4 airlines have implemented it. ↔️ As the industry moves toward a retail-driven future, mid-tier airlines will need to participate in Modern Airline Retailing. ↔️ Smaller airlines often lack the budget, skills, and resources to embrace transformation. The interconnected nature of the airline business means that few airlines can operate without cooperation and partnership. Don't you think it's time to start talking about what airline retailing means to the mid-tier? 🤝 For more on this topic, check out our blog ➡️ https://shorturl.at/269qD
