Waitress. Hostess. Bartender. Pizza making artist. Faux fur Russian hat wearing vodka spokesmodel. Baby sitter. Dog sitter. House sitter. Pie selling extraordinaire. Camp counselor. Manager. Customer service rep. Sales rep. House cleaner. Horrible telemarketing rep. Director of sales. Vice President. Queen. Author. (ok, one may be fictional) This is a list of most of the jobs I’ve had. Some were great, some were just plain awful. Some paid well, some didn’t. They all taught me lessons. They all made me want to be better. They have all kept me humble. (one even made me gain 15 pounds, ok 2) Don’t forget where you came from. Don’t forget what you went through. Don’t forget where you’re going. Don’t forget who helped you along the way. Don’t forget to help others get there. Don’t forget to tip. When I see people berate the barista on my morning commute, I am right there covered in flour in my pizza apron. When I get that telemarketing call, I am on the other side of that line reading some stupid script. Always be kind. Always be kind. Always be kind. Don’t be a dick. Just saying. If you see someone working hard to make a better life for themselves, offer encouragement. Go and have the best Thursday in the history of the world. Don’t forget the wipes!

Why do you want to work in the restaurant industry? 👉 Why they’re asking - Some interviewees don’t have an excellent handle on the fact that they don’t excel in people-oriented roles, so how you respond to this question may either help solidify your status as a strong candidate or dismantle it. 👉 What they’re looking for You don’t have to go overboard and state that you’ve “always wanted to work in a restaurant” if this hasn’t been the case. Still, ideally, you should confidently state that you enjoy meeting new people and accommodating customers and prefer fast-paced work over long drags/lulls. This will ensure the interviewer that you’re cut out for the role. 👉 How to answer- Be authentic and honest about your response! It should feel natural to state that you love being around people and that you thrive in environments that require you to multitask (both of these are key answers). If these don’t sound like appealing job characteristics, you should reconsider applying for a restaurant job. Additionally, if you’ve worked in the restaurant industry before, this is something you’ll definitely want to bring up when this question is posed. The fact that you have prior experience means your answer will carry that much more weight. 👉 Example Answer Having worked as a waitress at Restaurant X for a year, I learned that my personality lends itself well to collaborative and guest-focused industries, such as the restaurant industry. I enjoy working with a team in a fast-paced environment and find it stimulating and rewarding to work toward customer satisfaction.

Working as a barista, a position overlooked by many and often assumed as trivial, has been one of the most humbling experiences in my professional life. This "low-level" job is demanding, requiring intense multitasking, attention to detail, and excellent customer service skills. Every day, our colleagues in food service juggle complex food orders, rotate through what's often 20+ recipes, and maintain an exceptional standard of cleanliness, all the while relentlessly ensuring each customer leaves with a smile even when faced with a less-than-sunny attitude from someone who's coffee "isn't white enough" or who's change "contains too many pennies." Being on the other side of the counter has deepened my understanding of the importance of all roles in the chain of command within a workplace. Regardless of the position, all jobs are valuable, come with unique challenges, and deserve to be respected, each contributing to the overall success of a business, and we should collectively preach as such. By doing so, we not only improve workplace morale but also enhance productivity and customer satisfaction. Let’s celebrate the hard work and dedication of all employees, from baristas to CEOs. #EmployeeRights #WorkplaceValues #CustomerService #CareerGrowth #RespectAllJobs
