If you have doubt about a candidate, there should be no doubt in your decision not to hire. I get it, you've got a big hole to fill in the team. But in my years as a Chief People Officer, I've seen too many leaders looking for the right candidate for too long, and when finally they find someone with the expertise, they're culturally a bad fit. It's simple. Don't hire them.
