[ICYMI] 'DiNapoli: NYC Contract Spending Rises $7 Billion Since FY 2019 Urges Greater Agency Oversight Given Increased Spending' Office of the NYS Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli "This rapid growth warrants analysis of both spending trends and service delivery. The City's increased reliance on contracts to expand programming offers additional capacity and operational flexibility, but also creates a greater need for oversight to ensure that services are high-quality and delivered continuously. Sufficient staff are also needed to ensure that contracts are registered punctually and negotiated in the City's best interest, and that providers are paid on time. Delays in payment to providers impair provider capacity, which could lead to diminished quality of services or service interruption..." According to a new GOV.UK press release, social housing tenants will soon be able to request free information about the management of their homes, covering everything from damp and mould, to health and safety, to whether or not their landlords have been meeting the target of carrying out emergency repairs within 24 hours. Minister for Social Housing Baroness Scott says that this will create “a culture of openness and transparency among social landlords and tenants, giving residents the tools they need to hold their landlords to account so they can raise standards to the high level they rightly expect.” What are your thoughts on this? Were these reforms needed, and if so, do they go far enough? #Property #PropertyRecruitment #TeamBuilding #Hiring #PropertyIndustry #PropertyManagement #Everfin

Local governance can be very difficult in the best of times. When some individuals decide to start dismantling the bureaucratic structure, it can get even more formidable. Make sure your community is getting advice from organizations like the National Association of Counties, the National League of Cities, and similar state organizations prior to making major governmental changes. #governance #localgovernment #transitions #formsofgovernment

The City of Sturgis, SD dissolved the city manager position. It has been a dumpster fire since Grade A certified polamity. The city’s public works director and police chief have resigned from the mayor’s executive administrative team to focus on their departments. A third member of the executive team recently left the city. The current mayor, Angela Wilkerson, finds herself in a tough situation. She was tapped to finish the unexpired term of the mayor who stepped down earlier this year. She supported keeping the city manager form of government (https://lnkd.in/eeiBEBjx). But things are getting rocky. There are budget woes and she has proposed cutting the city engineer, director of communications and the city’s human resources/administrative services (see link: https://lnkd.in/eKj83NPT). On top of that -- she missed the most recent budget meeting when a medical appointment ran long and now residents are calling for her ouster. Some rough days ahead in Sturgis... ---------- I am getting close to 9,000 subscribers to my weekly newsletter. Each week I provide a list of city managers who have resigned, been terminated, or retired. I also include job postings. 💬 UK Budget announcement: what this means for social housing With the recent UK Budget, significant measures are being introduced to support affordable housing growth and stability in the social housing sector: New funding: A £500 million addition to the Affordable Homes Programme aims to deliver 5,000 new homes, with a focus on Social Rent, bringing total investment to over £5 billion for 2025/2026. £50m will go into planning departments to help recruit 300 new planners, this is something I recently discussed in a piece with Inside Housing. Read the full piece here: https://lnkd.in/evdHchjm There will also be £233m funding for homelessness prevention in 2025-26, but no information yet on how this will be allocated. This could create roles in Housing Options, for positions such as Homeless Prevention Officers and Homeless Case Workers. £1bn to remove dangerous cladding over the next year, boosting recruitment for those working within roofing and cladding, Contract Managers and Site Managers. In addition to this, the Warm Homes Plan will have £3.4bn funding over the next three years to improve 350,000 homes, resulting in the need for Retrofit and Decarbonisation professionals. 🏡 At Sellick Partnership, we’re dedicated to helping housing providers find the right talent to navigate these changes and continue delivering essential services. Please feel free to reach out to a member of the Housing team – you can find out more about us here: https://lnkd.in/eDbhGDPA #UKBudget #SocialHousing #AffordableHousing #SellickPartnership
