With a new administration entering the White House in January, philanthropy is approaching a crucial crossroads. That is why we feel privileged to have TCC-er Jared Raynor at the Grantmakers In Health Policy Exchange 2024, sharing insights with colleagues about the work that needs to be done right now and moving forward. Some highlights from Day One: 💡 Listening to J. Nadine Gracia from Trust for America's Health discuss a blueprint for strengthening public health, which outlines six priorities for the next administration. As an #evaluator, the final priority of protecting scientific integrity resonates especially strongly. 💡 The reminder by Adriane Casalotti, Chief of Government and Public Affairs at NACCHO of the necessity of philanthropy’s voice in protecting public health agency authority from being stripped away and responding to crises. 💡 "Philanthropy can bring people together that would never otherwise sit at a table together" Irfan Hasan of The New York Community Trust. 💡 It's not just policy, but how we communicate it- David Jordan, President of the United Methodist Health Ministry Fund advised that one of the most important things to think about is not simply the message, but where we deliver it. Looking forward to seeing what Day Two brings! #PublicHealth #Evaluation #Philanthropy #StrategicCommunications

We are in the planning stages for the 14th National Innovative Communities Conference, and we can't wait to see what exciting initiatives are developed based on what those in attendance discuss and learn. Eleven years ago, the NICC inspired the founders of the city of Jurupa Valley to launch their Healthy City initiative, Healthy Jurupa Valley. What is Healthy Jurupa Valley? **** HJV is part of a global movement of healthy city initiatives that work to improve the health and quality of life of all residents. Healthy Jurupa Valley is a public/private partnership between the City of Jurupa Valley and the nonprofit agency Reach Out. The mission is to inspire residents to ignite change, bringing greater health, safety, and quality of life to everyone in the city. The initiatives we've undertaken in the past decade are far-reaching, and the impacts are broad. ✅ Through the efforts of this initiative, HJV has increased green space, community gardens, and awareness of substance abuse issues and vaccine availability. ✅ We've held leadership academies to empower community members to become leaders and share resources. ✅ We've created "Shop the Walk" events to drive connection between local business and the community, and hosted face-to-face meetings with elected officials to allow them to meet the community members they represent. Health represents so much more than physical well-being, and the HJV initiative has grown community connection, safety, and well-being in immeasurable ways. We can't wait to bring this program to more Inland Empire cities! #NICC #innovativecommunities #communitydevelopment #HealthyJurupaValley #healthycityinitiative #bluezones

Protecting, Connecting and Thriving: We Are All Public Health "Public health is more than just health care. It's the steps we take to make sure our neighborhoods and environment are free from pollution. It's making sure our food and water are safe to eat and drink. It's also the relationships we foster in our communities. We're all interconnected. When we all come together to support public health, all of us — individuals, families, communities and the public health field — can achieve the goals of public health." https://nphw.org/ #nphw #publichealth #womeninpublichealth

As cited by Korah, Nunbogu and Ahmed (2023): “Equitable access to health care for everyone is a fundamental goal of the SDGs (UN, 2015). However, there are marked spatial inequalities in healthcare access in Ghana (Peprah, Budu, Agyemang-Duah, Abalo, & Gyimah, 2020; Stewart et al., 2016; Yawson et al., 2017). Recently, a number of initiatives have been made to lessen these access to healthcare disparities. Prominent among these are the free maternal health care program (Witter, Adjei, Armar-Klemesu, & Graham, 2009; Azaare, Akweongo, Aryeetey, & Dwomoh, 2020; Dalinjong et al., 2018a, Dalinjong et al., 2018b), the national health insurance scheme to eliminate financial obstacles that restrict access to and utilization of healthcare (Dixon, Luginaah, & Mkandawire, 2014; Witter & Garshong, 2009), and the construction of health infrastructure to serve deprived areas. Despite these interventions, available evidence has established a strong relationship between socio-economic inequalities and healthcare access and utilization in Ghana (Fenny, Asuman, Crentsil, & Odame, 2018; Kuuire, Bisung, Rishworth, Dixon, & Luginaah, 2016; Novignon, Ofori, Tabiri, & Pulok, 2019). Even when health facilities are available, geographic accessibility – defined here as the distance and time spent accessing health facilities – has been identified as a critical challenge (Agbenyo, Marshall Nunbogu, & Dongzagla, 2017; Ashiagbor, Ofori-Asenso, Forkuo, & Agyei-Frimpong, 2020).” We are privileged at ResQ World to contribute to ongoing efforts to improve access to healthcare in the nation through our free medical screening efforts. #healthcare #communitydevelopment Prosper Issahaku Korah, Abraham Marshall Nunbogu, Abubakari Ahmed, Measuring access to health facilities in Ghana: Implications for implementation of health interventions and the Sustainable Development Goal 3, Applied Geography, Volume 158, 2023, 103026, ISSN 0143-6228, https://lnkd.in/evzNhTpb. To the glory of God, our urban missions took place as scheduled. It was rewarding to see beaming smiles on the faces of both children and adults, as we demonstrated the matchless love of God to members of the Pokuase-River side estate community through sharing of the Gospel, free health screening and clothe bank. It was a time of deep reflection and joy for volunteers, as participants went through free health screening and were spoilt for choice at the clothe bank section. We are very grateful to our medical and non medical volunteers, our partners and all other stakeholders who made this possible. We look forward to another impactful engagement during our rural outreach in June. Details will be communicated as soon as possible. It will be a delight to have you join us once again or for the first time when the time comes.

Partnering with local media can be invaluable in raising awareness of hospice funding challenges. It also helps mobilise support from the local community. Bolton Hospice worked with an Editor to secure a weekly spot in their local newspaper. Each issue shared hospice stories with the public, addressing misconceptions and highlighting the importance of hospice services. Want to do something similar at your hospice? Read the Example of Innovation to learn how it could work for you 👇 https://lnkd.in/dgCET8TH

🔙 #TimelineTuesday | In 2013, CPCA continued our advocacy efforts and expanded access to care for Californians: ✨ Advocacy Impact: CPCA's efforts influenced the State’s design of the State Innovation Model (SIM) grant, ensuring that Patient-Centered Health Home (PCHH) resources were available for providers. 💻 CalHIPSO & Meaningful Use: CPCA took over as the fiscal agent for CalHIPSO, supporting California's Community Health Centers (CHCs) in their journey to achieve Meaningful Use and enhance care delivery. 🌐 CaliforniaHealth+ Website Launch: We launched the CaliforniaHealth+ website, which not only showcased our members but also introduced a clinic locator tool to help Californians find the closest CaliforniaHealth+ center. 🤝 Partnership for Awareness: CPCA partnered with The California Endowment (TCE) to raise awareness around health care reform. TCE utilized the CaliforniaHealth+ locator tool, making it easier for Californians to Get Covered and Get Care.

Public health extends beyond health care— it is environmental, social, economic, and political. From local neighborhoods to entire regions, public health works to protect entire populations, making it an essential aspect of our collective well-being. When individuals, families, communities, and the public health field come together to support common goals, we can achieve significant strides in promoting #publichealth. This ensures that every community has the resources needed to be a healthy and safe place for people to live, learn, work, and play. #NPHW Learn how you can play a role during National Public Health Week: https://nphw.org/

Elevating community health--including access and equity--is both a hot issue and a rising expectation of health care organizations. This means philanthropy leaders must understand the issues and be prepared to talk about the rationale for charitable support and partnership.
