These last few summers, I've taken part in a collective effort funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and stewarded by Martin Lücke, Andrea Rothmann, and Benno Gammerl to craft a handbook for German queer history. Its aim is to make core primary sources and themes available to a broad public. The second of three volumes is now available, open access, online. https://lnkd.in/e9QWcCSB

A Thousand Channels – a queer (*) mapping 🌎 platform 🎁 “The diverse social and political activities of queer people are mostly fleeting, temporary and not a natural part of the public image of a city. With A 1000 channels, we are developing a platform that offers queer actors, groups and projects a way to report on these spaces and events and make them visible.” (*) = “Pride flag variant based on Daniel Quasar's 2018 design combining elements of the Philadelphia flag and the trans pride flag, and brown and black” (that is what you get when you +c and +v the emoji from the article) https://lnkd.in/eHd6JB6p

Commemorating Juneteenth: A Day of Freedom and Reflection Today, we honor Juneteenth, a pivotal day in American history that marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. This day serves as a reminder of the enduring struggle for freedom, equality, and justice. At Women in Localization, we are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in the localization industry. We celebrate the contributions of Black women in our field and recognize their invaluable impact. Let's take this opportunity to educate ourselves, uplift Black voices, and reflect on how we can continue to support the fight against systemic racism and inequality. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #DiversityandInclusion #DEI #WomenInLocalization #WLSV #WomenInLocalizationSiliconValley

Such a beautiful evening and beautiful people. Thanks for hosting this workshop (and inspiring talks). I take lots of learnings and reflections back home. But overall, I believe is wonderful that through initiatives like this one we can find space, language, and tools to have important conversations about: How can we create more open, safe, playful, fluid, loose, self-explorative, and inclusive spaces? How does that look like in your imagination? And how that can be translated to the buildings we interact with? 💖
May 8th I’m co-hosting a meetup in Rotterdam to explore the topic of ✨queer imagination✨ What is the queer imagination? How does it and can it shape the future? And what role do queer spaces have in nurturing it? This meet-up is for queer organisers / people active in queer nightlife / designers / futurists / artists / activists / academics & researchers or anyone interested :) 📅 Wednesday 8th of May from 19:00 📍 Location: .zip space, Rotterdam 🎟️ The event is free, but let us know if you’re coming: https://lnkd.in/gBdGtfFA Hosted together with Killian Poolmans (he/him), Lucy J.H. Schreurs, Eva Ventura, Dorian Kingma, and TJ Rivera

"I think books are like people, in the sense that they’ll turn up in your life when you most need them." Emma Thompson I’m doing the #OxfamReadingChallenge this year and keeping a record of the books I’ve read. When I’ve read a book, I take it to the charity shop, so that someone else can enjoy it, and it helps me with my decluttering programme (except when I buy more). 😄 The themes for the months to date were: ✔️January - Comfort Reading - Read a book by your favourite author (The Wee Free Men - Terry Pratchett) ✔️February - Love Stories - Read a book about love (How to be a Kosovan Bride – Naomi Hamill) ✔️March - International Women's Day - Read a book with a strong woman lead (Heartburn – Nora Ephron) The themes for the upcoming months are: 👉🏼April - Short Stories - Read a short story collection 👉🏼May - New Release - Find and read a second hand new release 👉🏼June - Pride Month - Read an LGBTQ+ recommendation 👉🏼July - Translated Fiction - Read a book translated from its original language 👉🏼August - Judge a Book by its Cover - Read a book with a cover that catches your eye 👉🏼September - Prize Winner - Find and read an award-winning second hand book 👉🏼October - Black History Month - Read a Black History Month recommendation 👉🏼November - Non-Fiction - Take part in non-fiction November 👉🏼December - New-to-you Genre - Read a book from a genre you've never read before I’m going to check my bookshelves for a short story collection to read in April, although I’m not sure that I’ve got one. 🤔 Which book of short stories would you recommend? You can still join the challenge - https://lnkd.in/eUVAsB4v #books #OxfamReadingChallenge #brandvalues

We are pleased to celebrate UK Black History Month 2024 this October. The theme this year is “Reclaiming Narratives” and looks to challenge stereotypes and recognize the richness of Black history with stories of resilience, creativity, and innovation, rooted in centuries of remarkable achievements in culture, art, medicine, and much more. This year's theme is particularly important as I know that some have felt in the past that Black History Month seems to centre the education of white people on specific issues such as racism and white supremacy with less attention given to uplifting Black voices and providing a space for all people to learn about and celebrate Black history outside of a Western prism. There undoubtedly remains much vital work to be done to dismantle systemic racism and white supremacy in the UK (and around the world) and this is work that needs to be undertaken all year round, not just in October. Our Black Affinity Network (BAN) does amazing work throughout the year in supporting the Black community at our firm. As a co-chair of our LGBTQ+ network (Spectrum) it is important to me to collaborate with BAN to ensure both networks are inclusive and given the cross-over in membership between our and the other networks at the firm. I am looking forward to continuing that collaboration and commemorating Black history this month and every month! #BHM2024 #reclaimingnarratives #diversity #inclusion #UK #whitecase #blackhistorymonth

🌟 Reflecting on Juneteenth: Celebrating Freedom and Progress 🌟 Although Juneteenth has passed, its significance and the lessons it teaches remain ever-present. As we commemorate the end of slavery in the United States, we are reminded of the resilience, strength, and perseverance of those who fought for freedom and justice. For many, including myself as a proud member of the minority community, Juneteenth is not just a historical milestone but a powerful reminder of the ongoing journey toward equality and inclusivity. It is a day to honor the past, celebrate our progress, and renew our commitment to a more just and equitable future. Let us continue to: Educate ourselves and others about the history and importance of Juneteenth. Celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black individuals and communities. Advocate for policies and practices that promote racial equity and social justice. Reflect on how we can contribute to creating a more inclusive world in our personal and professional lives. Together, we can build on the legacy of Juneteenth and ensure that the principles of freedom and equality are upheld for all. 🔗 #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #Equality #SocialJustice #Inclusion #Diversity
