We are pleased to celebrate UK Black History Month 2024 this October. The theme this year is “Reclaiming Narratives” and looks to challenge stereotypes and recognize the richness of Black history with stories of resilience, creativity, and innovation, rooted in centuries of remarkable achievements in culture, art, medicine, and much more. This year's theme is particularly important as I know that some have felt in the past that Black History Month seems to centre the education of white people on specific issues such as racism and white supremacy with less attention given to uplifting Black voices and providing a space for all people to learn about and celebrate Black history outside of a Western prism. There undoubtedly remains much vital work to be done to dismantle systemic racism and white supremacy in the UK (and around the world) and this is work that needs to be undertaken all year round, not just in October. Our Black Affinity Network (BAN) does amazing work throughout the year in supporting the Black community at our firm. As a co-chair of our LGBTQ+ network (Spectrum) it is important to me to collaborate with BAN to ensure both networks are inclusive and given the cross-over in membership between our and the other networks at the firm. I am looking forward to continuing that collaboration and commemorating Black history this month and every month! #BHM2024 #reclaimingnarratives #diversity #inclusion #UK #whitecase #blackhistorymonth
