Anyone who knows me, worked with me, networked with me knows that leading with authenticity and vulnerability is fundamental to my approach. However, making tough business decisions, especially those that affect our team's hard work and careers, has been incredibly challenging. Ive had to implement difficult changes to safeguard the business, which has resulted in many sleepless nights filled with guilt, stress, and heartache. It's never easy to make decisions that impact the lives of our team, but these choices are necessary for the survival and growth of Castle Employment Group, a business established for over 58 years. We have always been more than just a business; it's a family. Making decisions that affect our team feels like navigating through a divorce—whether amicable or forced, the emotions are raw, and I appreciate how much it impacts people’s lives and families. As a business owner, I bear the weight of these decisions to ensure that the company we’ve all worked so hard to build continues to thrive. "Turning Challenges into Opportunities: My Journey of Resilience and Reinvention" Life often challenges us in ways we never expect, pushing us to grow and adapt. Over the past few years, I’ve been on a journey filled with setbacks, transformation, and newfound opportunities, and I’m excited to share it with my professional community. After 18 years of providing HR support, my contract ended in May 2023. Despite my experience, finding a new role proved challenging. A brief HR specialist role ended due to unforeseen circumstances a stolen work laptop. At the same time, a close family member was diagnosed with a severe illness, and I became their full-time caregiver until their passing. To stay active, I enrolled in a career development program offering SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP preparation. Since I already held the SHRM-CP certification, I considered advancing to SHRM-SCP. However, my passion for cybersecurity led me to pursue and earn the CompTIA Security+ certification. Transitioning into a new field wasn’t easy. Interviews focused on my career change and resume gap; recurring hurdles that left me frustrated but determined to create my own opportunity. I turned to real estate and realized the potential of my unfinished basement. After months of hard work and collaboration, I transformed it into The Dulles Executive Retreat, a serene, executive-style space 5 minutes from Dulles Airport and 10 minutes from Reston Town Center. This journey taught me that setbacks often hide opportunities. What once felt insurmountable became stepping stones to growth. Managing this retreat has been rewarding, but I’m now ready to re-enter the workforce, bringing my expertise in HR and passion for cybersecurity to a new team.
