The Olympics have barely started but one winner is quite clear: NBCUniversal. Bloomberg reports that, since the start of the event, the company generated $1.25 billion, setting a new record in Olympic history. A record-breaking audience tuned in for the opening ceremony, and viewership for Olympic events over the last four days is up 77% over Tokyo. It is becoming clear that streaming is winning. 🔶 By blending traditional TV and streaming, Comcast attracted diverse audiences and created a more immersive viewing experience. 🔶 The ability to reach younger viewers attracts advertisers ($350 million of NBCUniversal's total revenue came from buyers who had never bought during the Olympics before). 🔶 A wide range of inventory, including not only the events but also pre-game and post-game content, allows reasonable CPMs. Many believe that Paris is the first truly multiplatform event, with inventory across linear, digital, social, audio, gaming, and other channels. Amazing how the value targeted communications has increased. It’s no longer good enough to simple advertise to masses. Brands now have to be strategic. They have connect and engage with a targeted audience. Good article explaining some strategies.
