Today marks the 110th anniversary of the first International Women's Day, celebrated on March 19, 1911, in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. Since then, it has grown into a globally recognized day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. While it's great to see many companies celebrating IWD, it's important to ask ourselves where we stand after a century of celebrations? Are we equally treated, promoted, and paid, or is there still a long way to go? I believe we should be celebrating a day with no biases where people are recognized for what they really are, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, origins or beliefs. Let's work towards a world where we celebrate each other for who we are and what we bring to the table. Happy International Women's Day. What does inclusion for women leaders mean to me? As a single mum (shoutout to my single mum leaders out there), supporting women's inclusion in the workplace means: 1. Flexible working hours and vacation - we have a four-day working week and generous vacation and parental leave policies. We support our team to take wellness days and block the hours when they can't take calls. 2. Investing in young female leaders - I have a policy of taking every informational interview request I receive or if I can't, ensuring one of my senior colleagues takes it. I believe that my generosity in sharing time, contacts, and advice should increase in proportion to my career advancement. 3. Ensuring equity and transparency in pay - we know women tend to negotiate less than male colleagues. We make pay scales transparent internally and on job descriptions and conduct biannual equity checks to ensure no-one is paid less for equal work. Shoutout today to all the women and women-identifying people who are creating and advocating for more inclusive workplaces and supporting each other.
