I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation with my colleagues to celebrate International Women's Day. Our discussions about our experiences, what inspires us, and the importance of connections with our fellow women made me feel closer to this wonderful group of ladies! On International Women’s Day, as I reflect on the journey towards equality, I find myself asking, “Have I done enough? Can I be better?” The answer is a resounding yes. Today isn’t just a day to celebrate the incredible achievements of women; it’s also a moment for everyone to introspect and ask ourselves how we can contribute to creating a world of true equality. It’s a call to action for each of us to support, uplift, and celebrate not just today, but every day. Let’s commit to being better allies, to listening, to learning, and to taking actionable steps towards an inclusive future where everyone’s contributions are valued. The memory still makes me twitch. This week, as #InternationalWomensDay approaches, let's take a moment before we hop on the hashtag bandwagon, shall we? Before you slap #IWD2024 on your Friday post, ask yourself: 👧🏾How is my post driving positive change for women and girls? 👩🏻💻What actions is my business taking to champion inclusion? 👩👧👧How are we making a difference for our clients and in our community? What are you doing to inspire inclusion? Let THAT be the subject of your Friday post. Make #InternationalWomensDay a beacon for change, not just another moment for marketing. 

This year's International Women's Day theme, Inspire Inclusion, is one of my favorites. Let's celebrate our progress and achievements, thank those who have supported, advocated for and raised the bar for all of us AND let's use the opportunity to bring awareness to the challenges that still exist. To me, Inspiring Inclusion isn’t just about who is "allowed" a seat at the table, it's about how we perceive them and treat them, as well. Take communication styles, for example. Studies repeatedly show that more so than men, a woman's tenor, volume, annunciation, and style … all send a non-verbal cue to others about our likability, credibility and ultimately our ability. The good news is, as leaders, we can do something to address this. One very real example is goal setting — having clear and aligned expectations for every role. Your company, department and individual goals should be structured, anchored in outcomes, and measurable. Doing so can remove some of the subjectivity from performance reviews and ensure that we are truly assessing based on performance and not style. Being aware of unconscious bias and taking thoughtful action is one way that I Inspire Inclusion. #iwd2024
