Did you know that over 407,000 youth are currently in the foster care system across the United States? Here in Georgia, the need for support is especially critical. These young individuals face unique challenges that require our immediate attention and action. 📊 Key Facts and Statistics: Increased Risk: Youth in foster care are at a higher risk for adverse life outcomes, including educational challenges and mental health issues. They are seven times more likely to suffer from depression and five times more likely to experience anxiety compared to their non-foster peers. · Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs): Over 50% of foster youth have dealt with four or more ACEs, which can lead to chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance abuse later in life. · Educational Challenges: Foster youth are more likely to struggle with absenteeism and have special education needs, making it harder for them to achieve academic success. · Support Systems: Programs that focus on leadership, life skills, and relationship building are crucial. However, these programs need your support to continue making a difference. 🤝 How You Can Help: Volunteer: Your time and skills can make a significant impact on a child's life. Consider becoming a mentor or volunteering at local programs. Donate: Financial contributions are essential to fund the necessary programs and services that support foster youth. Advocate: Use your voice to raise awareness about the needs of foster youth and advocate for policies that provide better support and resources. By getting involved, you can help foster youth in Georgia overcome these challenges and achieve their full potential. Let's create a brighter future for these young individuals together! 🔗Join us in making a difference: www.camphorizon.net #FosterCare #Georgia #YouthSupport #Volunteer #Donate #Advocate #MakeADifference

📣 Help Us Help Youth: Take our quick 5 Minute Survey on FAFSA and Homeless and Foster Youth by June 15th! ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dem7Pp8g ⬅️ To inform our FAFSA advocacy and improve our FAFSA training and resources, we want to hear from education professionals (high school and higher education), service providers, and others who assist youth experiencing homelessness and youth with experience in the foster care system to complete the FAFSA. 💥 Why this matters: The 2024-2025 FAFSA contains policies intended to remove barriers for homeless and foster youth. However, the FAFSA rollout has been complicated by multiple delays and missteps. These delays and missteps are especially problematic for youth who have complex personal circumstances, including youth experiencing #homelessness and youth with experience in the #foster care system. 🗣️ Spread the word: Please forward this survey to anyone in your network who helps youth with FAFSA completion. Your assistance will help us gather valuable insights from those directly involved in supporting students. Note: Individual responses will be kept confidential and will not be shared unless you provide SHC explicit permission.

September is #KinshipCareMonth! About 2.5 million children in the U.S. are being raised by kinship families. Generations United just released their 2024 report: Pathways to Success: K-12 Education Support for Kinship and Grandfamilies. The report details that kinship families face challenges that often impact a child's education, such as legal barriers to educational enrollment & communication barriers with schools. However, children do better academically when raised by kin compared to when in non-relative foster care, and connecting them with needed services & resources can help them thrive in school and beyond! Neglect constitutes to almost 70% of the reasons children enter foster care. Neglect often stems from systemic issues such as poverty, lack of access to resources, and social isolation. Family separations also disproportionately impact families of color (Kim, 2021). By addressing the root causes of neglect, we can prevent unnecessary family separation and keep children with their families where they belong. Join us on April 8, 2024, for our seminar day entitled "Empowering Communities: Innovative Strategies for Preventing and Responding to Child Neglect," as we explore the prevalence and intersectionality of poverty and neglect while building a shared understanding on how we can support families overloaded by stress. To understand ĒMA, we must first recognize the crisis at hand. We’re here to help mothers in crisis achieve lasting stability for their families. The reality is, many children enter the foster care system due to preventable issues like financial instability, rather than abuse or abandonment. While such cases exist, the statistics are clear: there are countless mothers in our communities who lack the resources to support themselves and their children. This is where ĒMA comes in. Our mission is to equip, empower, and educate mothers to set them up for lasting success. Discover more about the crisis and our approach in this insightful article by our CEO and Founder, Charlee Tchividjian. https://lnkd.in/eexVeY9T #ĒMA #EMA #EveryMothersAdvocate #MotherAdvocacy #fostercareprevention #reunifyfamilies #sustainablemission #breakingthecycle #reframingfostercare #preservefamilies
