As we embrace the season of gratitude, A Better Chance wants to take a moment to show our appreciation to our Member School partners who have played a vital role in helping our students access outstanding educational opportunities. In the coming weeks, we will recognize key partners within our Member School community who have placed the highest number of ABC Scholars during the 2023-2024 placement cycle. We are pleased to present the Southwest Placement Award to the Brentwood School in Los Angeles, California, for their exceptional commitment to our students' success. "Brentwood School is honored to be selected for the 2024 A Better Chance Southwest Placement Award. The Early College High School agenda is one of many failed Gates-funded reforms that have been scaled across Texas. Texas ISDs and community colleges are enticed by the ability to double-dip funds as an incentive to adopt the model. The proof is in the pudding that it does not work. Students are having to be remediated in college because the model puts the cart before the horse when they should still be learning the important basics in 9-12. https://lnkd.in/gR2nEKP5
Socorro ISD's Mission Early College High School recently honored John Fitzpatrick for his transformative leadership in early college education. As the founding Executive Director of Educate Texas, John played a pivotal role in creating innovative models that have strengthened education for nearly two decades. Now, under the leadership of Kerri Briggs, Ph.D, Communities Foundation of Texas' Educate Texas is excited to carry forward the mission of empowering students and educators across the state. "Every once in a while, an afterschool program comes along that truly changes the way we do school...one of those programs is Higher Achievement." - Principal Kerry Richardson, Brookland Middle School Higher Achievement is more than an afterschool program — it's a critical partner in education, empowering scholars to achieve their academic and personal goals. As Principal Richardson shares: "[Higher Achievement's] impact on our school community has been significant. From bringing in guest speakers and lecturers, helping students through the high school application process, giving them interview skills, to hosting high school fairs. It's really been a one-stop shop for families, and I can't imagine that we would be able to do the work to the degree and the scale that we've been able to do it without Higher Achievement's help." Together, with schools, families, mentors, and supporters like YOU, we’re building a world where ALL students have access to the opportunities they deserve. Join us in supporting their bright futures. Consider making a gift or learning more about how you can partner with Higher Achievement: https://lnkd.in/enpk2WMU
