Be intentional about building your leadership brand. That helped entrepreneur Shelmina Babai Abji get recognized as a leader when ascending the corporate ladder. She writes in Fast Company to consider how you are known and who knows you. Those two factors influence discussions about you when you're not present. Abji says this is part of being "strategic" and "intentional" for those who feel under-recognized or undervalued at their organization. She also suggests that workers ask for challenging leadership roles, view their boss as a partner in the promotion process and differentiate their value whenever possible. One way to do that is to help your boss — and their boss — find success. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eXHDYNNM Summary ✍: Todd Dybas

My first marketing campaign as a manager was a flop. Here's what I learned. Sometimes, our toughest moments lead to our greatest growth. Implementing a new regional marketing campaign, I believed it would be a breakthrough. Instead, it missed the mark, reflecting our misunderstanding of local needs. In our eagerness to innovate, we pushed forward without fully engaging with our market teams. The result was campaign assets that felt out of touch—a clear failure in both strategy and empathy. 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙣-𝙣𝙚𝙜𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣-𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜. We needed to involve them, seek their active participation in crafting solutions that resonate on a local level. We regrouped, valuing our team's insights to refine our campaign, enhancing resonance and unity. This proved empathy in decisions elevates outcomes for all. Have you ever felt that "personal brand" has become just another buzzword in leadership conversations? It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking a personal brand is about crafting the perfect pitch or curating a flawless online image. But real leadership isn’t built on carefully managed optics — it’s grounded in authenticity. True influence comes when your strategy aligns with who you are at the core. It’s about defining what you stand for, communicating that clearly, and ensuring your actions consistently back it up. I’ve seen client-facing leaders unlock entirely new levels of career success when they stop chasing what they think the market wants to see and start leaning into what makes them uniquely impactful. ***This isn’t about perfection — it’s about clarity and confidence.*** It’s about showing up as someone your clients trust, your team respects, and your peers admire because your professional presence mirrors your real-world values. The question isn’t... "How do I build a personal brand?" But rather... "How can I align my leadership impact with the best of who I am?" When strategy and authenticity meet, that’s where your leadership becomes magnetic.

MARKETING LEADERS ARE INCOMPETENT. The average tenure of CMOs at the top 100 Advertisers in the US is just 39 months. Clearly, each of them must be incompetent. They all must have faked their way into the role. Or have they become the scapegoat for poor corporate leadership? From an outside perspective, the lack of clarity from a CEOs business objectives and marketing leadership is a reoccurring problem. CEOs need to do better by partnering with their lead marketers. And marketing leaders need to ask better business questions. Let's stop the madness. Stop the marketing leadership turnover. Let's get back to leveraging marketing for what it's meant do. Drive business growth.
