🌍 Great to speak at the OECD's Inclusive Forum on Carbon Mitigation Approaches, where I had the privilege of showcasing the award-winning Bristol City Leap model alongside global leaders. This innovative, 20-year public-private partnership has mobilized nearly £1 billion in private investment to decarbonize Bristol's energy system, with £500 million to be deployed in just the first five years. It's not just about reducing emissions—it’s about creating a replicable model for achieving a Just Transition that meets climate targets while supporting communities. Cities in the UK and US are already exploring how City Leap could unlock the scale of finance needed to support their own energy transformations. We’re excited to collaborate further and would love to hear from other cities interested in the potential of launching their own City Leap initiatives. Together, we can accelerate progress toward a sustainable, inclusive future. 🌟 Read more about our recognition for public-private collaboration: BusinessWire article. #ClimateAction #JustTransition #CityLeap #Sustainability #PublicPrivatePartnerships

Climate change is a key consideration of the City of Adelaide's Draft Economic Development Strategy. If we want our city to transition to a greener and more circular economy, we need to encourage adaptive reuse of buildings, circular industries into our city, and people to walk to work to clear traffic from our streets. Have your say on the Draft Strategy before Friday, May 31: https://lnkd.in/gSnYmp2y

🌿 Green Bonds: Empowering Cities, Transforming Lives 🌿 The world is at a crossroads, and our cities are at the heart of this transformation. As urbanization accelerates, so do the challenges of sustainability, resilience, and social equity. Enter green bonds – a powerful financial tool that bridges the gap between economic growth and environmental responsibility. In our latest video, “Green Bonds: Empowering Cities, Transforming Lives,” we delve into the intersection of green finance and smart city initiatives. Buckle up as we explore how green bonds are reshaping urban landscapes and empowering communities. Let’s dive into specific case studies: 1. Copenhagen, Denmark: Revolutionizing Bike Sharing Green Bond Type: Municipal Green Bond Project: Expansion of the bike-sharing program Details: Copenhagen’s green bond-funded bike-sharing program added 5,000 electric bicycles to the city’s streets. The project reduced traffic congestion, lowered carbon emissions, and improved air quality. Before the expansion, the city conducted air quality measurements, showing elevated pollution levels. Post-expansion, nitrogen dioxide levels decreased by 20%, directly impacting public health. The project’s ROI includes reduced healthcare costs due to cleaner air and increased mobility for citizens. 2. Singapore: Smart Grids and Energy-Efficient Buildings o Green Bond Type: Corporate Green Bond o Project 1: Smart Grid Development Details: Singapore’s green bond-funded smart grid project involved deploying an advanced energy distribution system. The smart grid integrates renewable energy sources (solar, wind) with battery storage and demand response technologies. The grid covers 10,000 households and 500 commercial buildings. The project reduced peak energy demand by 15%, leading to cost savings for consumers and grid stability. ROI: Reduced energy bills, enhanced grid reliability, and increased renewable energy adoption. o Project 2: Energy-Efficient Buildings Details: Green bonds supported retrofitting 50 government-owned buildings with energy-efficient systems. These upgrades included LED lighting, smart HVAC controls, and efficient insulation. The buildings’ energy consumption decreased by 30%, resulting in annual savings of $2 million. The project also created jobs in the construction and energy sectors. ROI: Reduced operating costs, improved indoor comfort, and a positive impact on the environment. “What are the additional benefits that come from coordinating across and above city silos in this way? And are city cultures and environments changing as a result? Yes, it turns out the city culture is changing for the better. When you have to run every new proposal through the climate office, as the Oslo kommune requires, there are a host of other benefits that stem from that reorganisation and streamlined workflow. Let’s take a look at a few.” Way to lead, Audun Garberg and co! Check out how our Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance members are leading below.
