Use AND-OR targeting to set up your LinkedIn Ads audience

Last updated: 7 months ago

LinkedIn’s targeting allows you to customize your audience size. Using AND-OR logic helps further refine your targeting criteria by leveraging audience segments or audience attributes to select or exclude member accounts from your audience.

For example, you can target the job title of software engineer OR the software engineer skill, AND have five or more years of experience. This means that your audience will include:

  • Member accounts that have software engineer as a job title and five or more years of experience.
  • Member accounts that have software engineer listed as a skill and five or more years of experience.

If you’re launching an Accelerate campaign, we automatically create an audience optimized towards your objective by using your product name and description, audience signals you select, and historical data from your account’s previous campaigns. Keep in mind, not all audience targeting facets are available for Accelerate campaigns. Learn more about targeting for Accelerate campaigns.

While creating your target audience, if you select:

  • Narrow - Customizes your audience to those who meet your selections.
    • To increase your audience to member accounts who meet multiple criteria, add more audience segments or attributes and select AND
    • To decrease your audience using multiple criteria, add more audience segments or attributes and select OR
  • Exclude - Reduces your audience to those who meet any previous selections and don’t meet the exclusion criteria.

To use LinkedIn’s AND-OR functionality for a Classic campaign:

  1. Go to the Audience section of the campaign you want to edit or create.

  2. Choose to build your audience from an existing audience segment or create your own. Learn more about setting up campaign targeting.
