As with most features on LinkedIn, when you engage with our platform we collect and use (or process) data about your use of the platform, including personal data. This could include your use of the generative AI (AI models used to create content) or other AI features, your posts and articles, how frequently you use LinkedIn, your language preference, and any feedback you may have provided to our teams. We use this data, consistent with our Privacy Policy, to improve or develop the LinkedIn services (see Section 2). Note that we do not currently train content-generating AI models from members located in Canada, the EU, EEA, UK, Switzerland, Hong Kong, or Mainland China.

Providing a service to members and customers: Members or customers may provide personal data as an input to a generative AI powered feature, which could result in personal data being provided as an output. For example, if a member used our generative AI ”Writing Suggestions” feature to help write an article about the best advice they got from their mentors, they may include the names of those mentors in the input. The resulting output from the generative AI ”Writing Suggestions” feature may include those names, which that member can edit or revise before deciding to post.

Inputs by LinkedIn: Where LinkedIn controls the input for a generative AI powered feature, depending on the feature, we may process your personal data. For example, if you choose to use “Profile Writing Suggestions,” we will use (or process) the relevant data on your profile to generate the suggested text, which you then can review, edit and decide whether to add it to your profile. Another example is when we recommend “Suggested Posts,” we may summarize your post content including any personal data you included in the post.

Feedback and Improvement: When you choose to provide feedback for a generative AI powered feature, we may associate your feedback with you and use it to improve or modify our platform and products.

Safety, Security and Compliance: We leverage a variety of automated techniques, including generative AI powered tools, as part of our effort to keep our services safe, secure and compliant with our user terms, policies and applicable law. In connection with this important work, we may process personal data, including personal data sourced from our services.

The artificial intelligence models that LinkedIn uses to power generative AI features may be trained by LinkedIn or another provider. For example, some of our models are provided by Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI service. 

Where LinkedIn trains generative AI models, we seek to minimize personal data in the data sets used to train the models. We also do not currently train content-generating AI models on data from members located in Canada, the EU, EEA, UK, Switzerland, Hong Kong, or Mainland China.

Yes. In regions where LinkedIn or its affiliates use member data to train generative AI models for content creation, you can choose to opt-out of having your personal data and content you create on LinkedIn used for training (including fine-tuning). To opt out, use the Data for Generative AI Improvement member setting. Opting out means that LinkedIn and its affiliates won’t use your personal data or content on LinkedIn to train models going forward, but does not affect training that has already taken place. We are initially making this setting available to members whose profile location is outside of Canada, the EU, EEA, UK, Switzerland, Hong Kong, or Mainland China. If you live in these regions, we and our affiliates will not use your personal data or content on LinkedIn to train or fine-tune generative AI models for content creation without further notice.

In addition to the setting set forth above, members can also object to the use of their personal data for training non-content generating GAI models using the LinkedIn Data Processing Objection Form, accessible here.

Your personal data may be used (or processed) for certain generative AI features on LinkedIn. For example, we process the data that you provide to the generative AI powered feature (e.g. writing suggestions), or that LinkedIn might create if you use a generative AI powered feature (e.g. profile writing suggestions). Like other features on LinkedIn, when you engage with generative AI powered features we process your interactions with the feature, which may include personal data (e.g., your inputs and resulting outputs, your usage information, your language preference, and any feedback you provide). See our Privacy Policy for more information about how we use and process personal data.

When you engage with a generative AI powered feature on LinkedIn, the information you provide and any content that’s generated in response will be stored by LinkedIn until you delete it. If you are looking for past sessions or just want to discover the personal data LinkedIn has about you, you can use our data access tool to review the data we have about your activities on LinkedIn and, should you choose, you can delete or request deletion.
