Wishing our amazing Zorya community—our hard-working healthcare grantees, our generous supporters, and our cheerleaders—a wonderful holiday season! For many of us, the highlight of the holidays is gathering with loved ones. But spare a thought of gratitude for the many healthcare workers who will be hard at work, away from their loved ones, over the holidays. If you'd like to support frontline healthcare workers with childcare grants, end-of-year gifts can be made here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gand-wKu. 100% of individual donations go directly to our healthcare grantees. Many, many thanks to our Zorya community for valuing and lifting up #womeninhealthcare with your support in 2024! We have big things planned for 2025 and we can’t wait to share more with you soon! 💛 Cheers to a healthy, peaceful, and joyful holiday season! #womeninhealthcare #mothersinmedicine

  • “The US is the most educated population of women in the world that has the least amount of labor market participation.” A major factor? Childcare! “Because of the unaffordability of quality child care, women are the ones who have to downshift their careers.” At Zorya Foundation, this issue is foundational. We aim to level the playing field for #womeninhealthcare by providing cash grants to subsidize the cost of childcare. If you would like to make an impact on this issue this holiday season, we welcome your support! 👉https://lnkd.in/gand-wKu All individual contributions to Zorya Foundation go directly into the pockets of women working in healthcare for childcare-related costs. We appreciate your support. #womeninhealthcare #mothersinmedicine #childcare #womenleaders Kat Kovalchik McDavitt Emma Nelson Amanda W.

“Because of the unaffordability of quality child care, women are the ones who have to downshift their careers.” They pass on promotions and career opportunities while they are simultaneously hit with the motherhood penalty. Reshma Saujani of Moms First talked about the brain drain of motherhood at our recent event in NYC. Have you experienced this in your career? • In recent years, national attention has turned to addressing these social determinants as well, with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) listing health inequities as one of its top four priorities for improving health within the next ten years. Since then, healthcare providers and payers have poured significant financial resources into problem solving for these social determinants in their patient and member populations, but studies show that the care teams of these populations experience higher rates of social determinants of health as well. Case in point? Over 40% of Zorya applicants working with vulnerable patient populations reported experiencing food insecurity just within the past year. And it's no wonder, with applicants spending more than 30% of their income on childcare alone. Learn how you can get involved by checking out our website: https://lnkd.in/gNUn9ZCz

Well, y'all! We raised enough money for Zorya Foundation to give out another five full year childcare grants! We had originally only planned to raise three, then upped to four, and then upped our goal to five. Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way, donations, likes, shares, words of encouragement, high fives, hugs, comments, etc. Every little bit helps. Because of you, five more healthcare workers can afford childcare. And for a whole year. We'll open applications after in January with the goal of selecting our next batch of grantees by March. Mandira Singh, Lisa B., Amanda W., Nora Cox, Jaime Bland DNP, RN-BC, Emma Nelson, Kary Nulisch, Leslie Kirk, Michael Meucci, Chris Klomp, Kavita Patel, Dave Wessinger, Miriam Paramore, Ryan Dempsey, Beth Ratliff, Kno2, Blake Madden, Kat's mom + 65 more donors <3 <3 <3 Missed our fundraiser but want to donate? WE WILL STILL TAKE YOUR MONEY! https://lnkd.in/e_HbDD4M

We've raised $53,950 for Zorya Foundation this week--well over our goal of $48,000--and on our way to our FIFTH full-year childcare grant. THANK YOU to everyone has donated, shared, liked, promoted, and sent good vibes. Our #GivingTuesday campaign ends TODAY at 5:30p ET (after the Health Tech Talk Show!) and I'll personally top off whatever we need to get to our final full year grant. As a reminder, our full year grants provide $1,000 monthly for a full year ($12,000) to a mom working in healthcare to help her pay for childcare. If you are able, please help us get to that fifth grant and help out one more healthcare worker keep going. 100% of this week's donations (and all individual donations) go directly into the pockets of our grantees. • Safety net clinics play a critical role in supporting low-income and minority communities—providing essential health and support services to patients regardless of ability to pay. Even more interestingly, these clinics are often staffed by care teams from the same neighborhoods, resulting in providers that reflect the racial diversity of the populations they support. Case in point: Zorya applicants consistently reflect higher percentages of diversity than found in respective state racial demographic averages. With research consistently supporting the positive impact of racially diverse providers treating racially diverse patients—both clinically and in terms of overall patient satisfaction and experience—it's critical that we continue to support these women and their careers. If you’d like to join the generous Zorya community, donations can be made at the link below. Any little bit helps! Let's help Kat Kovalchik McDavitt make that additional full-year childcare grant happen! https://lnkd.in/gW4BGj5x Emma Nelson Amanda W. Mandira Singh Nora Cox Lisa B. Jaime Bland DNP, RN-BC

  • Working in healthcare is hard. It’s much harder if you are a single parent of 5 daughters, with an annual income of $30k, and are coping with your own health challenges. A full-spectrum doula, and a full-year Zorya grantee recently said this of her situation and what Zorya Foundation means to her: “A recent surgery really set me back mentally and financially. Being a single mom of 5 daughters, I try to instill a strong work ethic in them. But I also want them to understand that it’s okay to ask for help when needed, and that if you search hard enough and do good deeds in the world, they will find a community of people and organizations that will be there to support them. That is what Zorya foundation embodies in my opinion.” This combination of optimism, strong work ethic, and belief in community is remarkably common amongst Zorya grantees. These are all core components of working in healthcare, and they are all deeply admirable. Zorya Foundation is proud to be the “found community” for so many women in the healthcare field. Speaking of community—our incredible Zorya community rallied yesterday to meet our goal of $48,000 (four more full-year grants). BUT – our generous founder, Kat Kovalchik McDavitt promised to top off any partial year grant raised through FRIDAY, so let’s keep the giving going!! A 23 year old medical assistant in Nevada. She’s a single mom with two young kids. She works at an FQHC. Her annual income, including side food delivery, is $45k. The majority of her monthly income goes to daycare, leaving little else for food, rent and utilities. This is one of Zorya Foundation’s full-year childcare grantees, supported by our amazing community of donors. She’s raising her family on her own and saving what she can to continue her education so she can give her children everything she dreams of. Her children’s father suffers with substance use disorder and is unable to be there for her and their kids. Despite her challenges, she loves working with patients and she loves her job. She told Emma Nelson: “I am so proud to work for an organization that provides so much help to those communities who are underserved, I love being the voice for my Hispanic patients and making them feel secure in that their point was understood, they are heard. I translate and make them feel secured that we as a team have them and to trust us with their health. I appreciate every Hispanic patient that is so thankful and appreciative for having me as their MA knowing I understand their language.” Our community rallied yesterday and we've exceeded our goal of $48,000 (four more full-year grants). BUT - I promised I'd top off any partial year grant we raise through FRIDAY. As B.J. Boyle and Matthew Holt have said in past campaigns - MAKE KAT POOR AGAIN! I may be recruiting board member and huge supporter Mandira Singh to help me out here (j/k she already offered). Donate here: https://lnkd.in/e_HbDD4M Lisa B. Amanda W.
