As we wrap up 2024, here’s one more round of ZEMBA’s Year In Review! While some parts of the world are celebrating Boxing Day today, containers, also known as “boxes”, are on ZEMBA’s mind all year round! 90% of all boxes have journeyed by sea at some point on their path from production to your home. But almost every vessel on the sea today is powered by high emission fuels. This year has been a transformative one for ZEMBA, and we’re excited to revisit a key milestone from the summer! 🚢 In collaboration with Lloyd's Register Maritime Decarbonization Hub, we conducted a Request for Information to help inform the scope of our upcoming RFP. By engaging nearly 50 ship operators and fuel suppliers, we discovered: 🔍 E-fuel-powered container shipping services could be commercially available as early as 2027. 🔍 A near-term mismatch seems to exists between the supply of certain e-fuels and the availability of e-fuel-capable vessels — highlighting critical areas for innovation and collaboration.
