A new report from the Center on Reinventing Public Education describes how our students are faring post-pandemic. Swipe to see what the report shows us and discover what it means for high schools. ➡️ In conjunction with the CRPE report, here are several ways to promote recovery efforts in your high schools, with examples from our XQ schools. ⬇️ 💚 Relationships and Engagement: Build trust and belonging through mentorship and advisory programs. At Crosstown High School in Memphis, both students and staff participate in peer-to-peer mentoring. This school exemplifies how a strong sense of belonging leads to increased attendance, deeper engagement, and higher learning outcomes. 🔬 Proven Interventions: Expand access to strategies like tutoring and flexible learning schedules. The Grand Rapids Public Museum School Michigan designates Fridays as interest-based learning days. Students select extended learning opportunities beyond their core courses and even sign up to teach classes alongside their peers. Teachers also pull small groups of students aside for targeted instruction in areas they struggle with. 📊 Data and Equity: Use insights to close gaps and center the needs of vulnerable students. At many XQ schools across the country, students play a prominent role in sustaining a Strong Mission and Culture. From sitting in on interviews with prospective teachers to reviewing discipline policies, students learn how real-time data informs school-wide decisions. Five decades ago, President Lyndon Johnson spoke of a bold vision for America: a future where education empowers every individual. He believed in a “new spirit-stirring in America” that placed education at the heart of progress. Last week at Exchange24, that same spirit was alive and thriving. We came together to share ideas, challenge assumptions, and explore what it will take to reshape high school education for the future. What We Learned: 🔑 Skills as a New Currency: The future demands education systems that prioritize skills—reshaping how we teach, assess and define success for students. 🎨 The Power of Creativity + Storytelling: These tools can drive meaningful change by connecting communities and amplifying impact. ⏳ Honor the Past. Build the Future: Progress comes from respecting history while daring to transform the present. As we close 2024, XQ reaffirms its commitment to educators, students, and communities. We will keep innovating, questioning, and creating—building a movement that redefines the future of American high schools.

2024 was a whirlwind of change and innovation in education! 🌪️ From the rise of AI in classrooms to the renewed focus on student mental health and civic engagement, we've witnessed a lot. As we bid farewell to this eventful year, let's reflect on the key takeaways and anticipate what 2025 holds.
