Women in Media Initiative Somalia - WIMISOM

It was an honor to welcome to our office high level delegation including Mr. Christian Kuehnl, Somalia Portfolio Director for Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH; Mr. Simon Hagemann, Head of Development Cooperation- Somalia at the German Federal Foreign Office; and Fatima Bashir, Technical Adviser for the GIZ Regional Program on FGM Prevention. GIZ supported WIMISOM in the implementation of "Improving the Prevention of FGM Awareness in Puntland" project, which aimed at improving community awareness on FGM, and enhancing the capacity of journalists in the area of program production and storytelling on FGM. Along with WIMISOM team, community members and journalists, whom we have worked under the project participated in the meeting. The discussion touched upon avenues for consolidating the gains made with regards to improving awareness around FGM. Emphasis was put on engaging in grass roots awareness, joint advocacy with CSOs, close collaboration with the government, and effort toward winning hearts and minds in the fight against the evil practice of FGM.
