Our latest #DataJoltOfTheDay is here just in time for those holiday celebrations! Did you know that according to a recent study commissioned by Empower and conducted by Wired Research, 84% of US Adults report there's at least one topic they want to avoid like the plague at this year's holiday table? Politics and financial topics take the top spots, though others can do without the unsolicited advice from around the table (39%) and those “keeping up with the Joneses” conversations (34%). These insights reflect the increasing polarization and sensitivities surrounding social, political, and personal topics. Heated debates on these topics can turn a joyful gathering into a tense atmosphere. And because the holidays are often seen as a time for celebration and unity, people may prefer to avoid contentious discussions to maintain peace and enjoy the festivities. #opinionpoll #consumerinsights #holidayresearch #finances #politics #nationalsurvey

Closing out the week with our newest #DataJoltOfTheDay from our recent work with Empower. Did you know that 1 in 3 Americans plan to treat themselves to a gift this holiday season? With all the stresses and challenges so many face during the holiday season (and throughout the year, really!), buying a gift for yourself is so important. For starters, it's a tangible way to prioritize your mental and emotional health. It's also a reward and a reminder of what you've overcome or achieved across the past year. It's also a great (and super simple) way to spark joy and happiness for yourself. Finally, with the holidays so often focused on giving to others, you might tend to neglect your own needs. Treating yourself helps balance the scales and makes sure you, too, are taken care of. What are you waiting for? Go out there and Treat Yo-Self! #consumerinsights #holidayspending #holidayfinances #holidayshopping #opinionpoll

Today's #DataJoltOfTheDay brings you fresh holiday insights! According to the Empower 'Gifted' Study, conducted by Wired Research among 2,000 nationally representative Americans aged 18+, 1 in 2 Americans would rather take on debt than sacrifice celebrating the holidays in a special way. That’s over 136 million Americans willing to go into the red to keep their holiday traditions alive and festive. You might be wondering why people would consciously take on debt "just to celebrate." Research shows that: 🎄The holidays are often seen as a time to honor long-standing family traditions and connect with loved ones. Many people prioritize these experiences, viewing them as moments that bring joy and create cherished memories, even at a financial cost. 🎁 There is significant societal and cultural pressure to "make the holidays special," including gift-giving, hosting gatherings, or traveling. Failing to meet these expectations may lead to feelings of guilt, inadequacy, or disappointment. 😀 For some, the holidays offer emotional comfort, especially during challenging times. Splurging on celebrations, even if it means going into debt, may provide a temporary boost to mood, a sense of normalcy, or the chance to bring happiness to others. 💍 The commercial nature of the holidays encourages spending and promotes the idea that lavish gifts, decorations, and celebrations are necessary for a fulfilling holiday experience. 💗 Many people express love and appreciation during the holidays through material gifts, special meals, or experiences. For them, giving up these gestures might feel like a sacrifice that impacts their relationships or personal values. For more information about the survey, reach out to us! We've got more #holidayinsights coming your way across the next week. #marketresearch #opinionpoll #finances #holidayspending #onlinesurvey

Our newest #DataJoltOfTheDay is here! According to our recent survey of 2,000 nationally representative Americans, 44% - or more than 113 million adults – are feeling more stressed than excited about the winter holidays. We've done plenty of holiday research that's uncovered why stress can outpace joy during the winter holiday season for so many Americans. We've compiled 10 of the most common reasons below: 1. Financial Pressure: The holidays often come with significant expenses. For many, these costs can create financial strain, especially during times of economic uncertainty. 2. Time Constraints: Balancing holiday preparations with work, family obligations, and other responsibilities can leave people feeling overwhelmed and unable to enjoy the season fully. 3. Family Dynamics: Holiday gatherings can sometimes bring up family tensions or unresolved conflicts, making the season emotionally challenging. 4. Unrealistic Expectations: Media and societal expectations often portray the holidays as a time of perfect happiness and joy. Trying to live up to these ideals can lead to stress and disappointment. 5. Workload: End-of-year deadlines and work responsibilities can pile up, leaving little time or energy for holiday activities. 6. Travel Stress: Traveling during the holidays can be chaotic, with crowded airports, delayed flights, and traffic congestion adding to the stress. 7. Grief or Loneliness: For those who have lost loved ones or feel isolated, the holidays can be a painful reminder of their absence, leading to feelings of sadness and stress. 8. Physical and Emotional Exhaustion: The combination of social commitments, shopping, and planning can leave people physically and emotionally drained. 9. Overcommitting: People often feel pressured to say yes to every holiday invitation or tradition, which can result in a packed schedule and burnout. 10. Seasonal Factors: The shorter days and colder weather during the holiday season can contribute to seasonal affective disorder (SAD) or lower energy levels, compounding feelings of stress. #opinionpoll #holidaystress #consumerinsights #holidayinsights

With Thanksgiving in 2 days, what better time than today to drop our latest #DataJoltOfTheDay? According to the Empower "Gifted" Study conducted by Wired Research among 2,000 nationally representative Americans, 27% of US Adults are planning to skip Thanksgiving this year to save money. That's nearly 67 MILLION men and women who are bowing out of Thanksgiving celebrations to keep money in their pockets, instead. From the same survey, we see that 14% of those with holiday worries are concerned that they won't be able to afford a turkey for the holiday table. The research suggests that financial concerns are front and center for millions of Americans this holiday season, when many feel like their dollar won't stretch as far as it has in the past. And so many are looking for creative ways to save money this year, including foregoing their usual Thanksgiving celebrations. #Thanksgiving #opinionpoll #personalfinances #financialresearch #marketresearch #consumerinsights #holidayspending

Our newest #DataJoltOfTheDay is here! Our recent work with Empower uncovered how Americans are "spending" the holidays! Our #DataJoltOfTheDay is here, with continued focus on recycling behaviors in celebration of #AmericaRecyclesDay tomorrow! According to our recent survey of 2,000 nationally representative Americans 18+, people in the Northeast and West are more likely than those in other regions to regularly recycle. We love providing the WHY behind the numbers. Research has shown that people in these areas have both the motivation and the means to recycle more consistently than their peers in the Midwest and South. For starters, the Northeast and West Coast tend to have more environmentally focused policies and regulations, which often include government mandates or incentives for recycling. Second, cities and states in these regions often invest more in recycling infrastructure, making recycling bins, curbside pickup, and public recycling facilities more accessible. This makes it easier for residents in these areas to participate consistently. Research has also highlighted that there tends to be a higher level of environmental awareness in the Northeast and West. With a strong focus on sustainability and climate change action, people in these areas are more likely to prioritize recycling as part of a broader commitment to environmental stewardship. Similarly, the emphasis on sustainability and environmental responsibility has helped make recycling become more deeply ingrained as a cultural norm in these areas. Lastly, the Northeast and West have more densely populated urban areas, where waste management and environmental issues are more visible. Urban areas also often have a higher demand for recycling services due to both space limitations (for waste disposal) and the ease of distributing public services in a concentrated area. Today's #DataJoltOfTheDay is here and we're once again focusing on #Recycling in anticipation of #AmericaRecyclesDay. Did you know that Boomers and Seniors are 21% more likely than their younger counterparts to regularly recycle? There's a mix of historical, environmental, and practical reasons that might explain this. For starters, these older generations grew up during or shortly after World War II, when resource conservation was emphasized. Practices like reducing waste and reusing items were necessities, so the mindset of "waste not, want not" has often stayed with them as a habit. Boomers were also among the first to experience major environmental campaigns, such as the "People Start Pollution. People Can Stop It" campaign from Keep America Beautiful in the 1970s. These campaigns likely influenced their ongoing commitment to recycling and environmental stewardship. Older generations also tend to settle into routines, making them more consistent with habits like recycling. They may prioritize recycling as part of their household routines and have been doing so for decades. It's also important to note that just because younger Americans may not be recycling as regularly as their older counterparts doesn't mean they aren't environmentally conscious, because they are. Research has shown that generations like Gen Z and Millennials might focus more on reducing waste at the source, using eco-friendly products, or minimizing single-use items rather than recycling alone. They’re also more likely to engage with broader environmental actions like supporting green policies or choosing minimal-waste lifestyles.
