A $9.8 million Community Wildfire Defense Grant from the USDA Forest Service is giving Lake County a much-needed boost to reduce wildfire risk to human lives and property. The grant brought together multiple rural fire protection districts to clear overgrown brush from roadsides and support a brush chipping program that assists landowners with vegetation removal from their property. New federal funds announced to support wildfire impacted communities and local economies 🔥 • Office of the Governor - California has allocated $40.7 million to five communities hardest hit by the 2018 wildfires to support community development and aid in their full economic recovery. • USDA Forest Service has awarded $20 million nationally to transport hazardous fuels from forests to facilities for processing with $7.3 million of these funds supporting 12 projects in CA. ... California’s public seed bank made history in 2024🌲 … Thanks to seed collection by the USDA Forest Service and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), California's public seed banks achieved a record-breaking collection of 11,330 bushels of conifer seed-bearing cones! These efforts were supported by California Reforestation Pipeline Partnership and are vital for restoring California's forests and enhancing wildfire resilience. Thanks to prescribed burns, mechanical thinning, and fuel breaks by the USDA Forest Service, firefighters were able to protect the communities of Angelus Oaks and Wrightwood.
