Agency site visits offer invaluable firsthand insights into how programs and policies are implemented. Recently, our Fellows visited the Social Security Administration (SSA) and began their day by attending an Office of Hearing Operations SecurityStat meeting. Led by Commissioner Martin J. O’Malley, Chief Operating Officer and Acting Chief of Staff Dustin Brown, and Chief Performance Officer Adam K. (WHLDP Alum Cohort 7), the meeting featured a highly interactive discussion aimed at identifying and resolving key friction points across the agency’s highest-priority areas. They then heard from an engaging leadership panel, including Associate Commissioner Susan Camarena, D.Mgt. (WHLDP Alum Cohort 1). Discussions focused on navigating change across agencies, making a strong analytics case for the benefit of your work, and taking ownership of the process by which you make decisions. Lastly, our Fellows explored the SSA History Museum and toured the SSA Phone Operations Command Center. Throughout the day, conversations were marked by openness, curiosity, and a shared commitment to charting a path forward together. #WHLDP #LeadershipMatters Marvin Barnes, Marcos Bolaños, Ph.D., Dr. Yolanda J. This season, the #WHLDP has much to be thankful for, including our Fellows, supervisors, leadership facilitators, coaches, and our team! We’re also grateful for the opportunity to foster understanding and collaboration across diverse perspectives. Leadership Lab #2 focused on enhancing our Fellow’s ability to navigate a wide range of viewpoints, deepening understanding of their own cultural worldviews, and those within American society. Fellows focused on: ➡️ Self - Building awareness of their values, the complexity of their worldviews, and recognizing this complexity is a strength! ➡️ Relational - Developing a respectful understanding of the values and worldviews of those they seek to connect with. ➡️ Systemic - Leveraging shared values to achieve goals that benefit the people we serve. Together, we are paving the way toward a future where varied perspectives strengthen our collective impact. #LeadershipMatters Marvin Barnes, Marcos Bolaños, Ph.D., Dr. Yolanda J. At the #WHLDP, we are proud to create spaces where senior leaders, our dedicated Fellows, and accomplished alumni come together to explore strategies for navigating transitions effectively, ensuring one administration finishes strong and the next is positioned to begin governing on day one. In a landscape marked by complexity and change, these conversations are not just valuable—they're essential. Our recent convening served as a powerful reminder of the collective wisdom within this community. Leaders shared their experiences, challenges, insights, and opportunities of being a Fellow during a Presidential transition, one of the most unique and important experiences at the center of government. These moments of shared reflection and learning are at the heart of what WHLDP stands for - developing leaders who are equipped to guide others through change with clarity and resilience so every administration can carry out its priorities on behalf of the American people. To our alumni who contributed to this meaningful dialogue, Christine Assili, David Armitage, and Noreen M. Hecmanczuk—thank you for your commitment to leadership excellence. Together, we’re shaping the future of public service leadership and delivering the government the American people deserve. #LeadershipMatters
