Our mission – a world where everyone has lasting access to safe drinking water and sanitation, for #EveryoneForever.

About us

Water For People exists to promote the development of high-quality drinking water and sanitation services, accessible to all, and sustained by strong communities, businesses, and governments. We're working to reach Everyone Forever. Water For People promotes safe and reliable water and sanitation services for every family, clinic, and school. This means every single person – even the hardest to reach, the most vulnerable, the marginalized – has access to safe water and sanitation services. It’s not enough to just reach Everyone. We want to make sure water and sanitation services are sustainable. Forever means working from the ground up and top down – empowering communities and governments so that Water For People won’t have to be around forever, but water and sanitation services will be.

Updates

  • Approximately one in four people don't have access to safe drinking water, and nearly one in two people doesn't have a decent toilet. That's unacceptable. However, 2024 is not over yet, and you can donate to help transform tomorrow. Thanks to our generous partners, all donations until tomorrow will be matched up to $80,000. • The Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Geneva Conventions of 1949 establish all children's inherent human right to health, water, and sanitation. Globally, over 600 million children under 18 live without safely managed drinking water, and 1.1 billion live without safely managed sanitation. As UNICEF (2023) puts it: "This is a collective global failure to fulfill children’s most basic rights." To achieve SDG6 by 2030, developing countries need at least US$114 billion per year. The global water and sanitation crisis can be stopped.

  • We are proud to share that our work this year reached over 600,00 people with sanitation solutions. Access to safe sanitation not only prevents diseases but also promotes human dignity, empowers children, and protects our planet. As such, we believe sanitation is the gift that keeps giving. Our goals for 2025 are bigger than ever; you can help power our work and reach more people by making a donation today. Until the end of the year, all donations up to $80,000 will be matched. That means more toilets for your buck. Double your impact today: https://ow.ly/u78K50Uw593

  • Toilets are a place for peace, dignity, and health. Yet globally, 3.5 billion people live without access to safe bathrooms. For many, sanitation access is threatened by conflict, climate change, disasters, reliable funding, and neglect. However, we are actively changing this reality. Watch government partners, community leaders, and the Water For People team in Uganda celebrate the inauguration of new toilet facilities at schools last month in honor of #WorldToiletDay. Together, we can transform lives and improve health for communities in Uganda and beyond. We thank all Water For People's staff because their dedication, teamwork, and heart made waves in 2024. Here's to making 2025 an even more impactful year!

  • Equipping communities with safe water, sanitation, and hygiene can have long-lasting impacts – including preventing up to 1 million deaths caused by diarrhea each year. You can join us in transforming community health. Thanks to our generous partners, all donations from now through the end of the year will be matched up to $75,000. Donate now and double your impact. Together, we can change these statistics. 📊 source: World Health Organization (2019). "Water, sanitation and hygiene: burden of disease."

  • Over the last two years, Malawi recorded one of the deadliest cholera outbreaks in decades. Cholera is an entirely preventable disease when adequate water, sanitation, and hygiene services and systems are in place. We’ve outlined a few ways to prevent epidemics like this: enhancing infrastructure, flexible funding, and protecting water sources. • Meet Gary De Kock and Linda DeKock: two incredible Water For People supporters whose passion for long-distance paddling and water continues to inspire us. They've brought attention to the global water crisis by paddling nearly 4,000 miles (6,000+ km) and raising more than $85,000 for Water For People. In 2014, they completed an epic 70-day-long journey down the Mississippi River. Their final destination: the #WEFTEC conference. On three separate occasions, they made their way to this conference through an adventure-filled water journey. Thank you, Gary and Linda, and the many generous and inspiring supporters who make our work possible!
