Electrifying changes ahead! ⚡ We joined Gov. Inslee to celebrate progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and eliminating toxic materials. Here’s how we're making an impact: 🌱 Electrifying the state's fleet, aiming for 40% of EVs (electric vehicles) in cabinet agency fleets to be fully electric by 2025. 💼 Launching sustainable purchasing tools and initiatives like toxic-free paper for ferry receipts. 🏢 Leading energy efficiency with projects like the net-zero Capitol Childcare Center. The Newhouse Building is also becoming more energy-efficient by using better insulation, efficient windows, natural ventilation, and skylights to cut down on energy use. And Washington is the first state to pilot the WEX Mastercard for fueling and charging vehicles! Together, we’re moving toward a greener future. 🌍✨ #CapitolCampus #Sustainability #GreenBuilding #OneDES

Yesterday, I got to host the Washington Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG) Veterans Day Recognition Event in the Columbia Room of the Legislative Building on Capitol Campus in Olympia, Washington. This event was done in partnership with the Employment Security Department and your Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs. We would like to thank the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services for the permit and use of the room, along with assistance in set up and clean up. They also make sure the wreaths at the monuments stay up through Veterans Day and they remove and dispose of them when the no longer look nice. They will be offering tours of the monument and it is worth the time to check them out. Another big thanks goes to TVW Washington's Public Affairs Network for streaming it live, recording it, and Broadcasting it so others can see it when it is convenient. This allows Veterans across the state to participate and be recognized for their service. The US Army's 1st Corp Brass Quintet and the Color Guard from the 7th Infantry Division made it a memorable event. Additional shout out to the speakers: Jen McDonnell, MBA, PMP, CSM Abuoh Neufville sarah M. Cami Feek, CDE Devon Brim Rony Raymond, MSHR Bethany Cram Behind the scenes there were dozens more making this event a success! Thanks Jessie Echeverria for finding an amazing baker to mmake a Veteran themed cake and cookies! Thanks also go out to the Washington State Patrol Troopers on Capitol Campus who do a great job helping keep people safe and for helping people find their way around. I always love seeing them interact with the public and giving stickers to the kids!

This is a great story of state agencies working together to implement Governor Inslee’s executive order to remove toxic chemicals from Washington State. One Washington State Department of Ecology employee was handed a receipt and started this process with Washington State Ferries (Washington State Department of Transportation), Washington State Department of Commerce, and Washington State Department of Enterprise Services. Never doubt what a small group of dedicated people can accomplish!
