We unite our community to identify and solve our most critical issues.
About us
At United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, our vision for a bright future is captured in our slogan: LIVE UNITED. We believe every man, woman, and child deserves an opportunity for a good life. This means our children have a safe and healthy start in life; our students stay in school and graduate; we do all we can to strengthen individual and family well-being; and we provide a safety net of emergency assistance for our neighbors in need. Many large, complex issues stand in the way of a good life for many members of our community. No single agency or organization, public or private, can tackle these issues alone. At United Way, we work every day to increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another. We are a “uniter,” bringing people together to improve people’s lives in our community so they are able to live stable, independent lives and flourish. So they are able to LIVE UNITED.

United Way staff took time to honor friends, family members and neighbors who lost their lives while experiencing homelessness in 2024 at the Homeless Persons’ Memorial Service at Milam Park. Hosted by Safety Net Impact Area partner SAMMinistries, the event was a reminder of our partners' compassion for our city’s homeless population by providing services in a dignified and respectful manner. It is estimated that 364 individuals died in Bexar County while experiencing homelessness in 2024. If you need safe housing or know someone in need, please call our 2-1-1 Helpline (open during the holidays) to find resources to provide reliable housing, food, rental or utility assistance and more. If you were unable to attend the memorial service, you can view it on SAMMinistries' Facebook page at https://bit.ly/4gRkTbz.
This past Saturday, SAMMinistries and members of the Homeless Response System gathered to honor and remember our neighbors, family members, and friends who lost their lives while experiencing homelessness in 2024. While the occasion was somber, we also use this remembrance to reignite our commitment to our neighbors, working together toward a future where everyone has a place to call home in San Antonio and Bexar County.

Last week, our friends at H-E-B surprised us with $25,000, which was given in honor of their partner and our long-time supporter, Michael Strauss. This incredible gift will fuel the activities and essential needs of the United Way Eastside Family Resource Center, which directly supports families in need on San Antonio's Eastside. Michael, your legacy of impact in San Antonio will continue to thrive long after your retirement. Thank you for believing in the power of uniting our community for a better tomorrow. We're proud to continue our annual tradition of adopting angel tree children in San Antonio. This year, with the help of Communities In Schools of San Antonio, we brought holiday cheer to 65 children with everything from slime kits to action figures. Seeing the sparkle in their eyes as they unwrapped what they asked for was priceless. Thanks to our Director of Community Engagement, Jennifer Quintero, for making this unforgettable experience possible. Your team can find local opportunities through our Volunteer Center.
