A month or so ago, one of our portfolio companies, DubClub, announced their Series A fundraise from our friends at Renegade Partners. While I'm obviously "thrilled" to be working with my friend, Roseanne Wincek, and "humbled" to be working with awesome founders like Ryan Gaertner and Lewis Burik, I wanted to skip the typical VC funding announcement and talk about the new era that I think we're entering: The Entrepreneur Economy. For the first time in generations, I think the smart move for the talented and ambitious leaving school is to skip the institutions and go straight into entrepreneurship. That building smaller opportunity companies are more interesting than building large opportunity companies (would you rather compete with 1,000 people trying to build a $1 billion company or compete with no one to build a $10 million company?). And I (try to) explain why - as a venture capitalist, totally beholden to the large company power law - I'm so excited about the trend.
