2025 is going to be a massive year for AI. We can’t wait. 🎆 From generative video (like the one here from Runway), to autonomous technology (aided by NVIDIA’s new Cosmos suite of environment simulation tools), to advanced reasoning (with OpenAI claiming to be on the verge of AGI) - the pace is breakneck! And all this data needs fast, efficient and sustainable storage. That’s where UltiHash comes in. 2024 was already a big year for us: after a lot of hard work internally and with our partners, we officially launched for general availability! 🎉 We also launched a free version of UltiHash for small-scale and private projects running on Kubernetes, as well as a test version with a lightning-fast setup using Docker or Minikube. You can get started in just 15 minutes at ultihash.io 🚀 We’ve worked with our community on a diverse array of use cases: including AI & LLM, RAG and GAN, computer vision in manufacturing, self-driving vehicles, speech-to-text models, telecoms network management - and many more. AI in particular looks to continue its explosive growth in 2025 - and we’re looking forward to building out UltiHash to meet all your AI and analytics storage needs. 2024 also saw some huge technical advancements: ✅ Launch of detailed documentation that guides you through testing, on-premises and Amazon Web Services (AWS) setup - as well as advanced topics like encryption, policy management and the SDK. ✅ Updated policy systems, including support for advanced policy variables and time-based access conditions. ✅ Many performance enhancements, including lockless reads/writes and asynchronous storage support. ✅ Seamless usability upgrades, including enhanced S3 API compatibility, default content-types, and removal of bucket naming restrictions. The real bottleneck in AI today isn’t about processing speed – it’s about how quickly processors can access the massive amounts of data needed to train models. Over the last few years, improvements in memory have been lagging behind the performance gains of processors. As a result, considerable time is spent on moving data to and from processors, which can easily become a bottleneck in AI training and inference processes. UltiHash was founded by Tom Lüdersdorf in 2022 to develop software solutions to store and retrieve data quickly and efficiently for AI and advanced analytics applications. They allow users to build a modern data lakehouse in the cloud and on-premises, reducing storage resources without compromising speed. In late 2023, UltiHash raised a 2.5M pre-seed round led by Inventure and joined by PSV, Tiny Supercomputer Investment Company, Futuristic.vc, The Nordic Web, and several business angels. I’m a big fan of Berlin, and since we decided to build UltiHash here in 2021, I haven’t looked back. Do I occasionally feel FOMO for the SF tech crowd? Absolutely—Berlin’s data infra ecosystem is still young and relatively small in comparison. But building in person with the energy of the UltiHash team here in Berlin has been incredibly exciting. Plus, validating our product early on with local enterprises like Bosch, who have their innovation campus in Berlin, has been a fantastic experience.
