Ikhlaq Sidhu built a Virtual Assets Lab at IE University; Francesco Pierangeli, Paolo Tasca, and their team built a UK Centre for Blockchain Technologies. We are all part of the UBRI Network, sponsored by Ripple and brought together by Lauren Weymouth. As we discussed different topics in UBRI events, we realized we needed to act together. In the world of rapid technological development and the growing gap between tech giants, regulators, entrepreneurs, and society, we need a neutral ground to bring the stakeholders together, debate, research, develop, and, most importantly, act in the interest of humans. And we need that on a global stage. What is a better place for that than a University? On November 29, we met at Nova School of Business and Economics and had an extraordinary meeting to test our hypothesis - is there a need for such an initiative? Thank you Jose Reis Santos and Nuno Lima da Luz, for your reflections on the Web3 ecosystem in Portugal and for your help in organizing the event at Nova School of Business and Economics. You are invaluable partners in our efforts. Thank you, Matthew Osborne, for your insights into the interactions of Ripple with the regulators and your support to entrepreneurs. Thank you, Pedro Roseiro, and the Decentralize Portugal project for your continuous support! Despite all the limitations of our methodology, the vivid discussions with entrepreneurs, lawyers, regulators, and ecosystem orchestrators made it clear to us - we need to make such a space. Therefore, we decided to launch a Global Network of Technology Regulations Labs. The network will be comprised of Technology Regulation Labs at each university member, which will act independently but in collaboration with the Network. More news soon! Many thanks to Ripple, Lauren Weymouth and Eric van Miltenburg for providing the seed funding for this initiative through the UBRI Network! Thank you for being the Founding partner of this network. We are open to other chains and technology companies joining and providing their support as we prepare for the global launch in 2025! We are keen to learn from our communities - which problems can we help solve? How can we amplify the impact? We started to work to answer this question with the help of Luis Filipe Lages and his VCW - Value Creation Wheel! Excellent feedback and a solid base to work on. Importantly, I am very grateful to our team from NOVA SBE Data Science Knowledge Center , especially Catarina Mendo Dias and Sara Lopes, for their help in organizing the event. Looking forward to an exciting 2025!
