The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Gasoline Sulfur program relies on tradable credits that allow U.S. refiners and gasoline importers to reach compliance with sulfur specifications. In 2023, gasoline suppliers obtained and retired more sulfur credits than they generated, a trend that could increase supplier compliance costs and the price of octane in gasoline if it continues. https://lnkd.in/eGebeR_z

We estimate that unplanned outages of crude oil production in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico due to storms averaged 295,000 barrels per day in September and 110,000 barrels per day in November. That accounts for 16% and 5%, respectively, of total crude oil production from federal Gulf of Mexico waters in those months. https://lnkd.in/eJ6aZjwt #oilproduction #oil #naturalgas

Second-quarter 2024 financial results for 34 publicly traded U.S. oil exploration and production companies suggest increasing well productivity is helping these companies reduce production costs on a per barrel basis and freeing up cash for other uses such as dividends and share repurchases. In the first eight months of 2024, U.S. crude oil production has averaged a record high of 13.1 million barrels per day, making it likely the United States will be the world’s top producer of crude oil for the seventh consecutive year. https://lnkd.in/eAMFznNJ #Permian #oilproduction
